Your videos are just so damned good. The flow and pacing make them unique. I watch a lot of techie KZbin channels and yours are absolutely singular. I literally had not a whiff of intention to buy a 360 camera before watching this and now I’m checking my bank account to see if it can handle the bruising. Damn you, Mr. Bloom. Keep it up.

Easily the most useful video on the X3. I saw this last year when I was still undecided if I really needed a 360 camera and it almost pushed be to just buy one. Now than I have number of events coming up where I can now justify the purchase I have an X3. I’ve watched your video again several times to fully understand the implications of using the different capture modes so I can achieve the end result I’m after when editing.

Your videos Phil, are like movies. And the great movies at that! Technically they are obviously excellent, but I think it is your personality, sense of humour and just talent, that takes it to the level that surely is not appreciated enough. I have watched many of your videos already, and right from the first one, I was truly amazed by the top quality. Only just now I realized that I didn't subscribe to your channel yet. One of the very best on youtube. Sometimes we tend to miss the most obvious things I guess.

Philip, that last bit was priceless! Hahaha! This is the best review I've seen on this camera yet. I wonder why no one talks about the Starlapse function on this camera... is it that bad that it doesn't deserve a mention? If so, shouldn't it be mentioned? I'm seriously on the fence about this camera after watching Ben Claremont's review(s) on it vs other 360 cams, and after yours I am so tempted to buy it. You touch on almost every aspect of the camera, but your in-depth analysis is so much more valuable for showing so many useful options for its use! Excellent video as always. Thank you so much for the work that went into this!

I think I may have watched more Insta360 reviews than anyone else on the planet as I try to pick my first action camera to better capture my blind dog. This review is the most helpful and most entertaining of them all. Can you share your color grading workflow? Can you comment on whether you think the X3 is my best option to capture my dog in the back seat of my car during road rallies? He moves around a lot and the scenery can be fantastic. I’m hoping I can shoot 360 and then reframe with the action, but the space is very tight and he’s a big dog!

(you were at this camera shop and in a restaurant) I have recently got the x3 and i'm not quite good at finding the right settings to shoot indoor (360/single lens; iso/sutterspeed/white balance etc.) also, is this footage edited? Thank you, Phillip.
@Ozpeter2 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed this so much that I'm sitting here in Melbourne writing this comment at 2.30am. I've had the X3 for a couple of weeks and I'm glad I got it, to replace the original One X - which could produce reasonable results in very good light but was a pig to use. The X3 is a joy to use, by comparison. My view is that consumer 360 cameras won't rival the picture quality of conventional cameras for the forseeable future, if ever, but conventional cameras can't produce the shots that a 360 camera can - so, if those are the shots you need or want, use the 360 camera for them, and use the conventional camera for the rest. Right tool for the right job rule. I'm glad you went into some detail about the audio - I recently uploaded some footage from a local park where you here the Aussie birds screeching away in the foreground, clear and bright, and far off there's a lawnmower doing its thing, and it's all captured very clearly and authentically. Except... there's a bug which nobody seems to have noticed except me (and Insta360 who say they are fixing it) whereby the 'natural' orientation of the stereo image is actually reversed. When you shoot with the screen facing you, looking at the view in front of you, the mic to the left of the screen is used for the right channel, and the mic to the right of the screen is used for the left channel. Of course it would be nice if the stereo image was kept in alignment with the video image when reframing, but maybe that's a bridge too far - but it should at least start off the right way round. Thanks for the guidance on manual settings - that was going to be my next test (getting rid of artifacts with flowstate in low light). Good to see a glimpse of Richmond Park... I used to engineer classical music CDs at All Saint's Petersham near there, now converted from a church to a house. Acoustic vandalism! But that's nothing at all to do with the X3, so I'll say nothing. Ooops, I already did.
@philipbloom2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter, much appreciated! Strangely they call the lens with the screen on it the front one and the other one the rear. I found this out my lens guards arrived today. Weird. Avoid using any of their audio manipulation as I am sure you’ve found how bad it is, especially they direction focus!

Been wanting a 360 cam for a while this might be where I jump in! Definitely agree on that low sharpness setting. That's a great tip, the other sharpening modes look really bad. As I am often recording video interviews at trade exhibitions in vlog style with my GH5 camera. Do you advise me to use the x3 camera or the instant 360 one inch 360, during interviews with my customers and replace the heavy setup I use today with these cameras? I only interview one person in front of the camera and the other person at the other side of the camera (me) . I guess In post processing I can focus on the person who speaks? Hello mate this is exactly the type of review I have been looking for, I own an X3 but have no experience with it.. I took it with me to an event I was photographing and was actually quite disappointed with the quality despite being on 5.7k. I have the stick and despite walking ninja like there quite a bit of stabilisation shudder/artefacting and also there was a dual white balance issue also. Needless to say all of these things combined has knocked my confidence somewhat. Seeing your video (which is thankfully not extreme sports) has given me hope that its going to be down to mistakes im making through lack of knowledge. I know this camera will be a useful addition as id like to compile wedding highlights in my down season over the winter to hopefully generate a little extra vital revenue. Il just keep drilling the info and hope I can improve with time. At the time of writing this comment im only a third of the way in but sincerely hoping to see advice on camera positioning and reframing a little later when I resume. thanks for making this video its been 10mins worth of help already.
