Ive got a problem with my exports. Material that I export to prores422 becomes choppy and doesnt look like it should. Almost like the framerate drops. Im using your settings when exporting, however my framerate setting isnt locked to 29.97. I can set it to 25 or 50fps. Have you encountered this problem?

Suddenly my 360 desktop version app started exporting different videos. in a preview it is a different angle, in the result, there is another, video gets cropped and even rotations are missing. Maybe someone had similar problem?

I heard that you can get good image by exporting in 1080p and then upscalling it to 4k in another app it works on mobile phone, I didnt tried it yet because im not decided yet into getting the Insta360 x3

Hi robin, thanks so much for the video!! Can you tell me the best settings for shooting full 360 video? I don't want to reframe at all, I want to shoot and export 360 video and some photos. I will be shooting in Rome and Venice in a couple of weeks and want the viewer to really feel like they are there (and great for my memories). I figure 5.7k/30 is the max res/fps, but what about sharpness and other settings? I mostly be shooting outdoors, sunny or possibly cloudy. Thanks so much!

In the Insta360 studio desktop app, the "export" options include a tab to export 360° video instead of reframed video. It will stitch together the back-to-back fisheye format of the Insta, and export as a single "equirectangular" file. I have the X3 and use this a lot to do my 3D editing in Final Cut Pro. There may be some loss of quality associated with the resampling, but the output file size is around the same and it hasn't been an issue for me. Note that the equirectangular projection is locked to "world coordinates" which can be cool or annoying depending on your project. If the X3 is pointed North when you start recording, the centre of the 3D view will remain towards this direction even if you change the orientation of the camera. I have an X3 mounted on my bike, and this took some getting used to while editing in 360 (it's really not a problem now). BTW I loved this video - learned a bunch!

Greath intro to my new Insta. But I struggle with the trim and reframing proces, how is the best way to do this? Say have a long footage which you want cut in smaller pieces, change the individual positions of the clips and then reframe these. My questions: 1. Where do you do the trim cut best? 2. Where do you put your clips together in the order you want? 3. Where do you do the reframing? 4. What order (1 to 3) do you find best/easiest/fastest?

When you reframe you can use the trim handles to set the duration, when you have the first part, lets say 10 seconds, then click the export button and choose “add to queue”. Then with the same clip you can set new in and out points with the trim handles, then reframe as you want and again choose add to queue on that part. You can so this as many times you want in the same clip without reframing and exporting the entire length of the original clip recorded. Hope this helps! For sure gave me a reason to make a video on this

Hi Robin, I wonder if you might be able to assist me on this. I have been using the Insta360 X3 for several months now. It's great! So, all this while, I download videos from the X3 onto my iPhone and then edit them on Studio on my MacBook after importing them from my iPhone. I wonder whether there is a more direct way, ie importing the video files directly onto my MacBook without going through the iPhone, because the files are so large and take my a lot of storage space on the phone. Another question - how can I download the video files AGAIN? Recently I deleted a file from the phone by accident but the file is still on the camera. The phone app however, will not allow me to import the file again. Most appreciated if you could give me some tips. Thanks!

I changed the resolution back to 1920 X 1080 & encoding format back to H.264 & it has been viewable in that saved format but obviously its not 4k which I'd prefer? nice starting tutorial, but why do you have to export in 4k? I mean the whole resolution of the 360 video is 5.7k, your frame would have not even 1080p. Doesnt that just make the file big with no benefit?

it's 5.7k for both lenses so you have to divide that by two. exporting it using 3840(4k) makes the quality better. but if you want a best quality, use single lens.

@@robinhannevig According to Insta, they don't capture GPS data in videos correctly, if at all!!! Seems you have to use a command line utility to extract the data so that anything on the planet that uses GPX data can understand it. Maybe the poor little thing isn't powerful enough to actually capture mediocre video and GPS data at the same time!! Seems they went down the route of fake video resolutions and FPS rates to entice the buying public! Nothing against your content, just a bit disappointed in the fake marketing and shill content providers that seem to manoeuvre around key aspects of this device.
