Insta360 x4 controversy - 8K influencer SCAM? Should you BUY?

Interesting video but I have a few niggles. The golf comparison shot with the X3 was a bit unfair. The X3 obviously has a dirty or damaged lens or protector. Time split between clips - others have said there is no gap at all with the X4. Lens protectors - check the instructions, you showed them being mounted incorrectly. But does that actually make a difference? In one careful test it was shown that the Premium covers are more prone to flares and attract dust more than the standard ones. Well, you can only go by your own experience. But what does make a huge difference to the picture quality is the sharpness setting. On low, the 8k capture is completely wasted. Keep it on the default medium setting imho. The sensor - it doesn't have one. It has two, 4k each, totalling 8k but for the whole 360 degrees. When you reframe it you get around 2.7k. Yes, the size of the sensors is not ideal for low light but the fact that there are two of them does change the maths a bit. For low light, shoot in 5.7k is the recommendation. Cheers!

Totally agree. I noticed it too. The footage of the X3 during the gold clip definitely looked like the lens had smudges on it. I doubt the actual footage is that bad.

I didn’t understand what you said about the lens caps… was it just me.. but what is your recommendation? Buy the premium lens? Or don’t use any lens?

@@MrHombre definitely get lense protectors, you get free ones in the box but the premium ones will be worth it, even if you just have an extra pair💪🏼

Had no troubles with overheating. I went to Europe earlier this month when temps hit 40 Celsius..performed beautifully!👍

The golf footage in the beginning is absolutly trash. i dont know what happend to your x3 or you used trash lensguards but its normaly not looking that bad. All lens guards a making the footage worse. also the premium lens guards. Sadly nearlyevery KZbinr is talking that bad about the X3. I mean the X3 is actually a pretty good 360 camera. There is no overheating and very reliable. In perspective the pricing is much better. So for budget user its more afordable. If you already have the X3 you need a lot of new acessories for the X4. The sensor on X3 and X4 the same sensor. But because of the better processing there is an 8k upscaling during recording.

Yeah you are totally right- the lense git scratched on the x3 thats why i loge the screw on lenses of the x4. The x3 is really good but when you compare it to the x4 they are worlds apart

Great stuff, the work flow & creative possibilities of 360 footage is what i enjoy most. Stepping aside from the controversies, it's a tool with certain use case scenario's not a be and end all. The average consumer is more informed these days so shouldn't be an issue on what to expect if considering a purchase. 👍🏻

No mention of how glitchy the X4 is? I've owned it since it came out and it's incredibly glitchy. It sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't. Sometimes exports files to your phone and other times it gives you an error. The quality is much better but this is like using the X1 when it first came out, barely works!

The real scam is the 8K resolution claim! 8K is the equirectangular and not the final reframed video ! people think instead is like a 16:9 video or monitor resolution, but is absolutely not. I wrote an article in the faq section on my company website

Ok so I don't completely understand where your coming from with the Equirectangular, thing, but if my google search is anything to go by, your referring to the full 8k footage only being available in 360 degree footage, when you cut it to 16:9 it drops the resolution, which I find logical and I don't think they ever promoted 16:9 footage as being in 8k...it also has the same sensor as the X3, it's the processor that has been upgraded in the X4 to bring the 360 degree footage to 8k...

I bought a 360 X4 after seeing amazing footage on KZbin - that's exactly what I wanted. I spent 500 euros on accessories like the extended selfie stick, extra batteries, the Bullet Time stick, and more. But I was so disappointed. The stitching line was visible, faces were blurry when zooming in, and the quality was poor, even with the right settings. Then I realized what was different: all those stunning videos on KZbin were shot in sunny places like Australia, Bali, and California. I live in the Netherlands, where it’s cloudy almost every day. The Insta360 X4 performs terribly on cloudy days - no one mentions that. And about the 360° "invisible" selfie stick… I bought the official one because they made it seem like you need the branded version. Truth is, it works with any selfie stick, even the cheap ones. Most KZbin videos about the X4 are sponsored, making it seem effortless. But even the editing takes a lot of time. If you live in a cloudy country, don’t buy it.

I upgraded to the x4 from my x3 and overall I'm happy with it. For my great quality video I still use my Pocket 3 though....I don't know if I can be happy with just the x4 though I'm considering it.

I think the x4 isnt a “all in one” camera- it serves a specific purpose in my kit. Definitely still need a main A cam

To many paid reviews I had it for 24hrs and took it back! The battery life and over heating issue is prominent! This camera is meant for you to shoot “CLIPS” and “STORIES” with. I didn’t like it at all! The 8k is exported to below 4k and it’s tedious to have to even go in the app to recenter things when a regular action cam let’s you shoot it and post it. I went and got my action 4 back immediately! 😂 and the camera quality on the action is better and way more cinematic.

Yeah I don't know if you know this but the X4 is meant for 360 degree files that you can reframe any way you want! Naturally a pov cam is going to look better like the action 4, because it's a totally different camera.
