Confession - I have only dipped into this so far as it's the early hours of the morning here, but I went straight to the bit where you mentioned sharpness. For me this is a vital setting. When set to low, I think the X4 loses detail as well as sharpness, and you can't recover that later. You end up losing a lot of the 8k capture advantage. Sure, it's a matter of taste but I would strongly recommend new users to test low vs medium themselves, and maybe stick with medium unless really sure that they are happy with the softer low look. Anyway, I will watch the rest tomorrow as it looks like a very good guide!

I use the thermogrip cover on the side of the massive screen on the X4 to protect it from rocks or gravel flying around when I mount the X4 on the handlebar of my mountain bike. I have also used it to protect the screen when I mount the X4 to the hood or roof of my car with a for the same reason. That huge screen is vulnerable. I have never done bullet time, but that could also be an occasion to use the cover for protection.

With the news of dji releasing their version of 360, I might wait and compare the two. Shooting low light is important for me and word has it dji is looking to improve that feature as well as the stitching image and battery life.

Would be interesting to see in the recording what difference it makes holding the camera either with the lenses facing up and down or facing sideways. I guess facing the lenses towards you while recording yourself, will eliminate the stitching line you get when facing the lenses sideways. I have watched now dozens of tutorials and none has explained the recommended shooting modes with the lenses facing in different directions.

One question for you: does the camera have a GPS chip built in (like GoPro used to have in their Heros, but since dropped it), or, when in that mode, does it grab GPS data from the phone (hence why the phone app needs to be running)? Very useful video. Excellant work. I dont know if others have experienced this but the APP does not run on my Android phone (must be getting on a bit) so I could not activate the camera :-(. Had to install the app on my Dads phone (newer) to progress. Shame the X4 is so dependant on the app. Anyone know of actiavting the camera with an older phone ?

You mention you never put the lens guards on your X3, how have your lenses held up? Presumingly you've taken great care and stored properly, have you noticed any micro scratching?

Just reverse the Thermo grip cover and you have very solid screen protection while carrying the camera in your bag if you don't have dedicated case.

Great video! Im looking into getting an X4. Was curious what microSD you use or recommend. As I was reading about it theres some people that claim that the Sandisk A2 V30 256 Extreme and Extreme Pro gives a card error with the X4. Others claim Samsung Pro Plus is better with no issues or even the Lexar Professional 1066x. Im so confused. Hoping for youre input on which to get. Thank you in advance

I just purchased the X4 for an Antarctica trip. Will 5.7k at 30FPS be a good setting to capture videos while in Antarctica (ex. riding the zodiac boats, and walking on ice/snow...). Also, any tips on how to operate the X4 on selfie stick while on a zodiac boat ride? I usually see users capturing videos while the X4 is on an extended selfie stick, how do you start and stop the video capture if the X4 is up high on a selfie stick?

Hi there if you have a youtube channel you can upload to your channel. I am in the process of editing hundreds of 360 videos from my 500 mile Camino from France to Santiago. I tested some over the last week or so on both Facebook and my youtube channel. You need each video to be full resolution and prepared using Insta studio before uploading. I found KZbin was better than Facebook when it came to video quality and playback. I was getting issues on Facebook with playback. You can only use the slow SD cards too, 😢 90mbps max, takes ages to transfer 256gb. Battery life is limited to about 75 min of 8k 30. Too.

Very disappointed with the lack of HDR photo features. Once you dig down through the menu, you find that the number of shots and +/-EV settings are all missing, and there is no option to save HDRs as RAW files.

They are probably going to add these via software updates in the coming months. I'm just disappointed that so many features that the X3 had are missing out of the box when it's essentially the same camera.

I think formatting it in the camera gets rid of old directories and log file, while creating new ones. I've swapped an SD from Ace pro that had footage to x4 without issues mind you. No format

Don't believe everything you see on YT from content creators with a big following. There's always two sides to any story ;) At the end of the day, Insta360 puts out good hardware and have been for a long time. Do some critical thinking and search past history of shady practices with the other two companies. I love how viewers are now saying they tell "all" their youtubers to not say what? two content creators who allegedly made accusations? Gotta love social media :)

@@LouisLuzuka sorry, that's inaccurate, the first accusation was made by Iphonedo (637K subscribers) about a 'colleague' Erin Donahue (2.8K subscribers) whom allegedly asked not to disclose sponsorship, it wasn't even HIM that was asked, it was 'A' fellow content creator. Then Jeven Dovey (1.05M subscribers) who allegedly said he was asked to remove sponsorship and displayed a screenshot of the conversation which btw wasn't the 'complete' conversation shown in his video ;) That's two of hundreds of sponsored content creators and these "3" are hardly "small" youtubers and I don't count the content creators who are cashing in on this for hits, likes and subscribes lol. But thank you for sharing your conclusions 👍

@@MrBiplab277 it is heating pretty fast, it doesn't hold the battery. For day to day use it's not as easy to play with, but it is a cool camera to have. I don't see many differences between the x3 and x4, 8k is a washed word to something that most tv's don't support. And even editing 8k is hard for 98% or more of the population at this point of time. Basically there's nothing to do with it. It's ahead of time. 4K is more than enough for me. But the X3 disappointed me, you can't really edit on the device, it has a few cool features, but it's a gimmick. And since my A roll doesn't come only from this camera it makes editing a bit more complicated for me.
