I’ve read the Mina series and book 2 is my favourite (Slayers) but Book 3 (Cult) is a fast read too and got me out of a slump. So they worth owning just for slump beating 😂. The characters do get fleshed out more and although Jared might seem like ‘Stefen’ - in book 2 there’s a new wilder character more like ‘Damon’ who I love. I’ve not read any of the other books in your vlog yet.

I love Chuck’s books but I completely agree that his writing style is very specific and bizarre, if you don’t vibe with that you’re not gonna enjoy his books (I’ve noticed they all have pretty low goodreads ratings). a lot of his stuff is borderline offensively satirical so that definitely has to be your thing to enjoy his books

I ❤ Amy Mccaw’s writing style, totally addictive and she’s a lovely BookTuber too. I ended up binge reading the trilogy in a weekend. It aint got a US publisher though but I buy all my UK edition books from Blackwells as they dirt cheap & ship over here for free

I’m surprised you didn’t like fight club! I watched the movie first and it remains one of my all time favorite mind fucks. I read the book recently and was worried that it would be boring since I already knew everything but I ended up still loving it. I will say that if you watch the movie, the confusing 2nd person narration is easier to grasp in the moment because you can see on screen who the narrator is talking about.

Chuck Palahnuick is a gay man writing Fight Club as a satirical look at straight dudebro behaviour as he saw it (not a guy ) I will say that even Chuck says the movie ending is better ^^;

The first scene of Interview with a Vampire is in fact set in New Orleans. After that the main character goes here and there pretty much doing what a vampire does. In that sense I can't imagine any serious spoilers.

Based on what you liked about Six Stories, I do recommend trying some of the other books in the series. You can read them in any order, and each one is very different from the others. The only thing that really stays the same across each volume is the format. I especially loved Changeling and Deity, both really interesting stories with unique endings.

As someone who was in high school/college when fight club came out it was 100% for dudebros (a lot of whom missed the point) the movie was enjoyable at the time and has some amazing performances- but yeah his books are a choice 😬😂

In Fight Club, Tyler is another the other side of the main character's personality. He's not real, he *is* the main character. Bob and Marla are also probably parts of his own personality. His sanity has fractured and he's trying to cope. The club is self harm.

I know you just finished a backlist bonanza, but I just finished reading a book on my own backlist, and I highly recommend that you read it!! It’s called The One I Left Behind by Jennifer McMahon. It came out in 2013, and it’s been sitting on my shelf for at least 4 years. I regret not reading it sooner. I couldn’t put this book down! It’s a thriller that will keep you on your toes till the very end. I had so much fun reading it, and I think you will too!

I’ve never heard of things growing on your scalp from sleeping with wet hair but I have heard about the pillow possibly getting moldy. I have a toddler and don’t always have to time to blow dry so I do sleep with it wet a good bit 😬

Interview with vampire is one of my all time favourite books. I'm not sure if you'll enjoy it as it reads a lot like a classic, but it's truly superb and I'd at least give it a try.

I'm always surprised to see Fight Club on bookish social media because I feel like the majority of people who consider it a Modern Classic are, in fact, dudebros. The movie was always infamous, but I've never heard anyone talk about the book outside of Reddit. My impression of it has always been "airport novel," tbh.

I have DNF’d so many of Chuck’s books because his writing style is sooo pretentious lol. Like he writes ~edgy things for the sheer shock factor of it all and it really isn’t that ground breaking honestly. I think maybe his only book I liked was Lullaby. Everything else was an eye roll. However, the MOVIE Fight Club is actually REALLY good!! You should watch it!

Fight Club didn't do it for me either. Everyone lost their mind over the movie as well and I just didn't understand the hype. It wasn't bad or anything, but, as you said, it feels like a man movie made for men, about men being pretentious about manly things.

I can tell that I too would NOT enjoy Fight Club. The idea of guys just trying to beat the crap out of each other, how interesting is that? Not very. I like how you got to read a vampire book while you’re watching The Vampire Diaries and that the last book was better than the first two. I do hope one day that The Changeling gets read because I have it, I’ve heard good things about it and I’d love to get your opinion about it. Thanks, Gabby, and I hope the gerd has been better since this video came out.
