Makes no sense. Every time I post a reel it gets the LEAST engagement out of all the types of content I post. I detest reels as a consumer and can’t stand them as a content creator. So this is just all around a pain and makes me hate social media. They just want to shorten everyone’s attention spans and damage everyone’s neurons because that’s exactly what fast pace content like reels and TikToks do. Ugh but thanks for the info. I appreciate the knowledge and heads up because I was not aware.

They want people to be slaves to social media both consumers and content creators. Not to mention I hate the clown behavior I see on reels and TikToks. Most people just mouthing words someone else said and bad acting. I can’t take anyone seriously anymore. We need to stop consuming this form of content as a whole but good luck with that. People are literally addicted.

I don’t consume reels and tiktoks because I refuse to do that to my brain, but when I film them I try to really make sure they’re as informative as possible without a bunch of theatrics. Or I’ll repurpose content I make hear on KZbin and give an abridged version that directs them to my channel. I’m going to focus more on that going forward.

it is not fair, at all.... For photographers, or any other image based content. Where are we going next? Everything is video based now... I can only speak for myself and I hate to make video content. I love to watch it, but IG was my safe space where I was able to be creative as someone who loves photography.

What concerns me as an image focused artist is that with all the support features for creatures they talk about they are mainly speaking about inluencers. In my IG artist community I see that these uers don't want to create videos but also don't like to see videos. And I am wondering if IG will match this user type in the future so this can continue to exist even if it becomes a niche.

I don’t watch reels, but I’ve made a few. I think I prefer long form video more, plus KZbin is nice in that most people seem to be making a video a week. A reel every day or every other sounds like a lot of work. 💦

Just because IG has research doesn’t mean they know how to interpret it. IG thinks that people love tiktok because it has video when the reality is people love platforms where their followers grow and where they can easily find exactly what they’re looking for. Twitter does the latter and not the former. YT and tiktok do both. Facebook and IG don’t do either that well.

No no no. I love watching small and fun videos! But tiktok is already that! IG was perfect photo app! Now there is no photo app anymore! Why rob the idea?! Why not give the same chance for people that love reels and photos?! Make algorythm love both! Make it show photos for new people like titktok does with videos. People love tiktok because it is easy to grow there not like IG changing algorythm every damn season and not knowing what they want! IG is like real life: the rich people grow richer and poor people stay poor!

I’m a photographer and although I love video, it’s difficult to share a gallery with Reels. The photos go by too quickly and you are unable to admire the photo fully. It’s definitely helpful in growth, though, as you said! I also relate with the forgotten child😅 My YT channel takes *so* much more work and effort than IG, but I weighed the pros + cons for the longest time!-even weighed it against blogging🙈 and here I am with YT!

I just started a new account very recently, I have about 30 followers. I do pro photoshoots, my pics already are noticed by quite some pros in the industry, I don't post selfies like 99.9% of the ambassadors of brands I'm being approached to work with. Yet, the only reel I posted got... 4.5K plays. On a 35 followers account. My paid post doesn't get half that per day...!!! Clearly, they tweaked the algorithms so that new accounts will be vastly advantaged with reels. They want people to come over to IG from Tik Tok.

Personally, I recommend IG Reels over Tiktok anyday. I average 500-2,000 views for each reel I post. It's much harder on Tiktok for me, since I only get 20-100 views.

Another BIG frustration about this that I can't sort out is the way they have accounts classified: If you want to be able to use the creator studio to pre-schedule posts, you have to be a "Business" account (or you did when I first started). BUT, to be included in any of these monetization plans, you have to be a creator account. It is really frustrating and annoying, and feels like if you want to pre-schedule, you are screwed. Unless THAT has changed to, and I am once again missing something. LOL!

I absolutely hate reels... I don't watch them and I don't want to make them. I barely watch stories because I'm just not interested. I post daily and engage with people I like. IG for me is a photo app and as a photographer I like to scroll through, then pause and admire someone's work. I don't want to watch stupid reels that are trying to imitate TikTok (which I also despise). It's a shame because IG has been great for that photo purpose but I guess now it's time for another app to pop up and kick IG's ass. I would be very happy if that happens. Screw them and their changes, this constant grind to find more and more followers, the mind games, the insecurities...
