Thank you for the niche lie being debunked because I am seeing digital marketers grow accounts to 50k and then start a new account (with momentum) and then claim you don't have to niche or have a strategy as a small creator account to grow, help people or make money.

I remember you guys talking about hashtag strategy before - feels like not so long ago but maybe it was! Time flies haha. Back then you tested your “use all 30 hashtags available to you” approach against the “use only a few hashtags” approach, and the former clearly came out on top. Hearing the new recommendation I’d be interested to understand what changed, did you do more testing? Is it best to use very niche hashtags for those 3-5?

Hi Natalia! Yes, you're remembering correctly. I had to check because I didn't remember the timeframe either lol, the last one was 2 years ago. Since then, IG themselves have been more specific about hashtag use and Adam Mosseri has talked about the lowering importance of hashtags on the platform. So at this point, we use anywhere between 3 and 10 hashtags at the bottom of the caption. The number of hashtags would depend on however many you're able to come up with for that post that are under 100k and feel useful. All in all, hashtags just aren't as helpful as they used to be so we wouldn't suggest you spend a ton of time on them. Find 10 that you like and can use on each of your content categories, and select as you go. Hope that helps! - C

Hi! We posted a Reel about it last month: instagram.com/p/DAEqfRcvGyA/. If they keep coming back, that's definitely a glitch. Sometimes it doesn't show on screen that they've been removed and if you refresh the screen, that can often help. Otherwise just go into your followers (not the flagged section) and remove them from there. Worst case, you could block them. And post Reels to both the main feed and Reels feed - we keep seeing that myth everywhere, I'm not sure where it originated but it's nonsense - C

Hi Kathleen, it's something that you'd figure out over time via testing. If you get negative feedback on any types of content (whether it's in Stories or elsewhere), then you'll know, or you can keep an eye on metrics to see which content is engaged with the least. Perhaps "annoy" isn't the right word, that's just what Adam said, but he would just mean content that seemed too pushy or salesy perhaps. Sharing your Reel to a Story doesn't feel like it could ever be annoying IMO - C

Hey - that feels VERY made up to be honest. We haven't seen any information about being inactive helping reach, if anything you should be engaging more with other accounts to bring over new eyeballs to your content, which typically increases the reach of your most recent post on feed. - T

Hi, I have heard a suggestion that apparently right after posting, a creator need to put in three comments right away, themselves on their own post or reel. And also go to their personal page and like, comment and save on their own post from their personal account. Supposedly that helps with reach & engagement. Is this true? Please help 🙏🏼

Hi Soumi! There's no need to do that. I'd imagine that came from the best case scenario of getting engagement early on after posting, but if you did it from another account (not the same account that posted), it could help. At the same time, they'd know it was likely from the same person because all those accounts would be from the same IP address. Overall, I wouldn't say it's necessary but I can't see it hurting, just avoid doing it from the same account - C

Hey - great question! For years (at least from 2016-2022) 30 hashtags was the one, so we spoke firmly on that at the time, even when Meta softly said they recommended 3-5 but our tests showed 30 still maximized reach. But now that hashtags don't nearly have the same impact as they used to (SEO is far more important), and Meta has firmly stated 3-5 is what people should use, we are staying aligned with their recommendation to avoid the risk of spam detection/shadow banning. The algorithm has changed so much that you'll likely notice if you search for a keyword even if someone isn't using hashtags their posts will still come up and that's because of SEO. We haven't seen any proof of that being a thing. It wouldn't make sense for Meta to do that, those third-party platforms drive business for them. - C
