Go with an 80/20 rule of high effort and low effort. Don’t be afraid to copy and paste content and then put high effort (whatever that may be) into videos and enjoy the process I study social media, but I’m also a creator. I’ve been stressed over the same things you are worried about and this was my solution. I probably spend 30mins-1hr a day Monday-Friday on my social content and it is so much more enjoyable than what it used to be. Less expectations but still gaining results

My conclusion is always the same: have fun while creating and provide people with value they want. All algorithms, even the KZbin one has the same rule: if you can hook a user and give them what they want and there's HISTORY of your content being watched - you're good. This is why it's so difficult to start and this is why it's so challenging to get views when the competition is so huge. Thanks Millie for this breakdown, even if it leaves us with a slightly depressing feeling. We will be alright :) sending hugs

I've heard that it's best not to use music from Instagram in your reels because the audio could be stripped later due to copyright. Also, in order to add music, you have to upload natively in the app, but if you want to include a thumbnail, you have to upload via desktop, where you have less control over audio.

In my opinion, as a casual Instagram user that wants to see specific content subjects, the search and explore part still needs a lot of work from Instagram. If I just navigate explore, most of the content I have no interest in (maybe they just push viral content without caring about how I interact with the platform). If I try to search for specific content for each accurate result there's 4 random posts with nothing to do with what I searched for. It is really annoying. With the technology that there is around for ages, dont know why they don't take advantage of SEO and other mechanisms

I've been trying to make up for my lack of former IG reach by laboriously commenting on the posts of people I follow. Because of this, it's just glaring to me that most people don't post more than once or twice a month (unless they're business owners), and many of the professional accounts I used to follow haven't posted at all this year (or maybe just once or twice). It's literally almost impossible for me to find enough new posts to comment on (even just 10 a day). Takes me the better part of an hour. IMO, people just aren't caring about this platform the way they were a couple of years ago. I can feel the burnout (even from folks who just post pix of their kids or their dinners). Anyone else feel this way?
@xeniad4715 Жыл бұрын
You’re definitely not alone. After leaving the Instagram “rat race” of posting everyday for 60 days , i too realized that a lot of creators slowed down with the pushing out of the content, and for similar reasons. I realized i can’t spend my time chasing this algorithm because it was taking away from my livelihood, my mental health, my family. I too now stick to posting once or twice a week- with quality posts and a little more strategy- and my audience grows at the same rate, sometimes more. I don’t think you need to kill yourself for the algorithm. Just do what you can ❤

Ever since Facebook ("Meta") took over Instagram, they have continued to throttle user reach. In the past, you could make some alterations and bounce back, but recently, it just doesn't happen. When they eliminated "Recent posts" in hashtags, they essentially took away the ONLY avenue available to get seen without algorithm intervention. Now, all of your posts essentially depend on Instagram to show people and Instagram has stated that they prioritize posts with higher engagement, which means they are prioritizing bigger (and corporate) accounts. They claim that their analytics "understand their users" but clearly they don't, because their users are frustrated, posting less, and/or leaving the platform. I don't want it to die, but Facebook is really working hard to kill it.

Thanks! What if you have many interests? For example, I only have a personal account.My content generally falls under "lifestyle", but it incudes film, photography, arts, fashion, vintage, decor, fitness, mental health and motivational. Is this too confusing for the algorithm, or does it categorise all under "lifestyle"?
@schoolingdiana9086 Жыл бұрын
Instagram never shows me more of what I like or watch. The more I like and watch learning Norwegian content, for example, the more it spams me daily positive phrases in English, how to crush my small business goals, and how to write a book in an hour or 2 days-none of what I click on, like, or watch. I’m here to figure out why they’re doing that, but halfway through, I haven’t seen any yet. I never watch Reels or Stories at all, either.

Any tips on how the algorithm treat a new creator account or an old user account turned creator? Which gets more exposure?
@MillieAdrian Жыл бұрын
Yes! So the algorithm doesn't "favor" new creators. What happens is when you create a new account, you're feeding the algorithm FRESH information. Because of that, the app is able to quickly categorize your account and your content to push it to the right people. When you have an account that's like 10 years old, it's almost like "information overload" for the algorithm. There is so much history it's working with, it might not be able to accurately identify how to "categorize" your account because two years ago you were posting random photos, but now you're trying to be a creator. It can be confusing to a computer that's just analyzing data. Did I explain that okay? 🤞🏽🤞🏽

I feel like the algorithm is changing because way more people create. It becomes an app to create instead of consume, which could be a problem because there is an overload of creators. Or am I completely wrong on this?
@hopet201 Жыл бұрын
In the best way possible, yes, that take is completely wrong. Way more people are born every day and way more people create every day. That also makes more people to consume. More ideas to exchange. Everything is always flowing. The statistic is that about 1 out of every 100 accounts that are “active” on social media are ones actually consistently posting content. Think about how many videos you’ve watched versus how many videos you’ve made. Never let ANYONE (including yourself) ever believe that the market is getting too saturated. Huge life advice for ever owning a business or even just getting your hands on money. There will always be room for you. Your spot is there to claim!

Hi Monica! Thank you so much for your sweet words. Some accounts have found success being faceless! I would recommend looking for other faceless accounts that are successful and look at what they do!!
Hi Millie - Great vid! I think the reach is down because 1) as a creator, you have wayyyy more competition than you did a few years ago and 2) content is stale. How many times do I want to watch someone, I don't really know, bake cookies or model their outfit of the day? Dunbar's Law states that the average person can only keep track of 150 people. After that, relationship lines are weak. If I pick up a handful of new people to follow because they are fabulous. - like Princess Catherine and Nigella Lawson the chef, I will, without realizing it, bump 2 people out of my top 150.

I have a creator's account and my content isn't reaching my audience. They talk about wanting to support creators, but it's just not worth it. I miss when it was new and simple. Hey Millie thanks for the amazing content. I had a quick question so with Ig I feel like I have been pretty much posting all over the place since I started my page about 6 years ago lol. Do you think it’s best for me to start a new IG page since I am more aware of my niche and what I need to post so that IG can understand better what my page and content is about for the algorithm?
@MillieAdrian Жыл бұрын
Hey Crystal! You're so welcome. No need to start a new page, it will take some work- but hone in, really niche down, post consistently within you niche, and IG will catch up! :)

@MillieAdrian What if I post about my many, I mean, many interests under the family blog niche....family activities, home decor, organization, gardening, cooking, outings, dining, fashion, makeup, hairstyles, dogs, cats, music, some traveling, etc.... I can't just pick one thing, it's my life. Halp!

Basically an increase in number of users on Instagram and a decrease of “time spent” on the app!

Hi @millieadrian I enjoy your content however this video was difficult on my eyes. The video appears Smokey or foggy or not in focus - the text and graphics were clear and the ads on this video were all clear. However the parts where you are talking appear out of focus or foggy? It made watching difficult and unpleasant. All good because I just put headphones on and listen but I thought you should know - love the content just the video portion of you talking was too blurry and difficult to watch.

I can't understand why some accounts with way few followers get soooo many likes on their posts -- even when the posts aren't anything special. Thoughts??!
@jennandcherries3 ай бұрын
Accounts with few followers will show on the algorithm with a “high” engagement rate because if 50 people follow them and 40 people people engage with their posts that’s a lot of their following. So the algorithm thinks that this person has high engagement rate compared to people that have 2k followers but only get like 50 likes.

Hi, Millie. I love your videos. Here’s a positive criticism that I think could make the viewers experience even better when watching. I’ve noticed that there’s like a cloudy filter on your videos lately. The picture quality is not clear enough, i don’t know maybe it’s the filters you guys put or how you process the video but that’s one thing that kind of subconsciously bothers me whilst watching.
@MillieAdrian Жыл бұрын
Oooo that's so weird I haven't noticed that! It doesn't look blurry on my end🤔 Honestly, maybe I need to clean off my lens before filming 🤣 you're watching in 1080p?

@@MillieAdrian - Hi Millie! Loved this video! It was posted on our FB community for digital marketers so I'm sure many of us are watching and following you now!! I am a photographer/went to film and photography school and if you look at the light reflection in your eyes, the focus is sharp, consistently. However, what others are perhaps alluding to is when you move. You are very animated (which is great!) but when you move there is blurriness because you are moving but you eyes are still sharp! It's not a focus issue as far as I can tell!

Hello. I think your videos are great however this foggy filter does not make you justice. Luckily I mostly listen KZbin rather then watch it..
@MillieAdrian Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Could you explain what you mean by foggy filter? I've had two comments about that and I'm not seeing anything foggy on my end 😭 Is it too bright? Or is the background too blurry? I'd love to hear what you mean so I can make proper adjustments on my camera
@erdegora Жыл бұрын
@@MillieAdrian it might be your team is trying to use your brand colors maybe so it can be a filter on brown for the video. I can’t say it is blurry but it does not look ‘normal’. It’s too beige maybe this is why makes it look foggy. Doesn’t look like a light issue.

Actually, all of this information is valuable depending on what you were looking for🤗🤗 This video simply explains and breaks down Instagram algorithms. It's important to understand how they work before trying to do anything else. Then from there if you want to learn how to use the algorithms to grow on Instagram, or increase engagement, that's what the other videos on my channel are for!💪🏽💪🏽@@sma1616
