Adding the awning to the far outside was too much weight to where it didn't feel safe. I think if we loaded it from the drivers side so the awning was closer to the lift it would be better. Or just doing it without the awning and doing a quick connect mount might be better.

I am looking at doing something similar for my engine hoist. For the boom extension what angle did you weld the two pieces together at? Thanks!

It will vary based on the roof rack and tent. What I did was measure the roof rack height plus the tent height. Then added about 6”. I took that measurement and used it so the smaller extension would be close to level or flat when lifting if that makes sense.

@@AbstonsGarage Yes that does make sense, thank you for the help!

Great video, where do you find the tubing that you used? Thanks

Thanks. There should be a local metal shop in your area.. Here in Birmingham there is a place called the Metal Supermarket. You can just tell them to items you want and they will cut to length and have it ready for pickup in about an hour..

GREAT video, what’s the length the 2x2 1/4”wall tubes used for the boom? Thanks in advance.

5’ for the longer piece and 3’ for the shorter section. We bought a 8’ tube and then just found what we thought would be close to the center of the 4Runner and also somewhat level when over the roof.
