If i downloaded windows 7 whit rufus file from pirate bay in the package then can i put the folder whith the files on the stick and run the instalation like that after i select boot from usb in bios or do i have to set it up by starting rufus and doing the seting from rufus and ofcorse whith the usb pluged in the pc i understand

+Zachary Pitts External hard drives act very similar to USB flash drives so yes it should work on a HD. Actually now that I recall I think the website may actually recommend using an external HD because in most cases they provide faster data transfer speeds VS standard flash drives plus they have a larger storage capacity. I do not really "review" operating systems but I will take a look at it and if I like it i might use it in a "garage sale finds" video.

MJ Some people specifically need portable Windows for certain things. I run Linux on my desktop _and_ my laptop, but I need Windows to use iTunes for music on my iPhone. Having Windows 10 on a USB drive with just iTunes and my music library is super useful.

Windows runs slower than a glacier on USB2, and doesn't run at all on USB3. To get around this, I integrated the EWF filter from the Windows Embedded system. It toggles on and off with a reboot, so I can install stuff on it, I can even run it as a VM. With the filter enabled, all hard drive writes are simulated in ram, so it runs very fast. It's also bulletproof, no changes are made, and any changes disappear on reboot, so it can't get viruses, or otherwise trashed. You need to disable pagefiling if you run the EWF, since it sort of defeats the purpose.

I know that program from 2+ version - for my old Dell D410 2005year and 2010 pc work perfect - used 2.0/3.0 USB sticks in all my pc are max 2.0 . And work and load Windows7 8.1 10 about 30s Some info to have normal speed like HDD use 2.0 USB port max and if USB work min 16GB but must have good S/W about from my test need 32MB S/W or more. Or USE IDE to USb adapter for disc of 2,5 or 3,5HDD and no need to know speed becouse HDD have like old 2005-2016 about 50-80MB/s R/W Also first run is like final install normal from DVD like detecting pc setting ,restarting ,set up etc for my on 2 tested was 30min to set up - next time will by 30s normal boot (First time need all config etc like in normal install) Also install from WintoUSb takes about 40-1h on USB stick on USBtoHDD was 15-30min. Also no need wory from DAMAGE stic via Read/write after install windows after load no work stick only normal like HDD if u open something ,copy U can normal load games on it -install drivers. I use this 2montch in Dell D410 like main HDD - in USB 3.0 ADATA 16GB stick (Laptop 2.0 USB max) and after install programs MS ,Drivers etc 7GB OS 3GB all rivers and program and have like 5GB free for something (But if u need more i use some anotcher stick and load from it) The iso i used: Windows 7 SP1 x86 RTM Disck orginal rlesed in 2009 ,newest up to now day Windows 8.1 and 10 Evolution x86 iso from MS Also if u have problem never use laggacy option only VHD or VHDX on my pc in laggacy was always BSOD VHD/X - no decrese of speed etc for my work also test like in normal PC HDD or laptop

I believe what you are demonstrating here, is creating a Windows INSTALLATION USB Media, from which windows can be installed onto a PC HDD. I want to install a working copy of Windows 7 onto a USB media, which I can boot from, into a Windows 7 environment. To do this I believe I need to use the tools button & use Windows to go conversion, Is this correct?

+Plaid X for windows 10 you need at least 32gb cause of bloatware. I turned my windows 7 into a iso and then used a program called nlite. it pretty much gets rid of all the stuff you don't need. it'll be barebones windows 7. but if you wanna use it for what I'm using it for its fine. although I wouldn't really suggest doing it, this is more of a last resort kinda thing.

+Plaid X then I'd suggest finding the smallest working os you can. you could install unbuntu on it (Linux based) it's only like 1.5-3gb depending on what version and what not. you would be able to save your files and for a one time kinda thing it's worth trying.

the reason it does not work with xp is because the method it installs windows is completely different in xp all things are computed on the fly and copied based on what you choose and what your computer tells the installer in vista and later all the install files are stored in wim files so it basically decompresses the wim file to the hard drive and after that it will compute what it needs or not the wim file method drastically improves time needed to install so thats why they kept doing it wintousb creates the bootloader and then will decompress the wim file to the usb stick like the windows installer so with the xp disk it cant find the wim file and it cannot continue

I used this for a long time with Windows 7/8 and Linux. Most of the time I have no issues but if the system fails to boot, it locks the USB stick rendering it absolutely useless. It cannot be reformatted no matter what steps taken to unlock it. The files are still able to be copied off of the drive but it's read-only.

Can your live usb flash drive detect the internal hard drive? Mine can detect but it says in disk management that the disk is offline because of policy created by administration. This is the reason why I can't access files inside that hard drive.

+Mike V Yes, once you have installed it on the flash drive plug it into the computer you desire to run it on. Then turn your computer on, go into the bios and set it to boot from the flash drive. It should then boot from the flash drive. I am sorry, I do not take calls.

Weird that the WinToUSB software wouldn't let me increase the size of the virtual Harddisk. I'm using a 64GB USB drive, and the default was still set to 14GB. And the arrows were greyed out, could not click them and could not select the text "14" to type in a bigger number. It's not a big deal.... just feels like a waste. Maybe I can fix that within Windows using the windows disk mannager (still installing to the USB at the moment).

I have a 32 GB Sandisk flash drive stick. And whenever I start Win2usb, it says that my flash drive is not partitioned or something of the sort. Why does it say that? Any tips on speeding it up? My Macbook Air with El Capitan 10.11.5 can only run the USB after starting up the computer running El Capitan then restart and run Windows off the USB or else it says "No boot device found" in the Windows option, then when it runs Windows (I used windows 8.1) it is real slow and it really is (It took 30 mins to get by the finalizing settings part and takes 1-2 mins to load, so any tips? I already turned off the fancy system things (animations and ect)
