We purchased two different evap canister relocation kits for our Jeeps: One from Metalcloak and one from Rock Hard 4x4. Which is better? We'll show you the install of both!

super cool to see both versions side by side install.. Very well done. I like seeing 2 NORMAL guys working on their Jeeps using different brands. Thank you for doing this!

Nice video, one comment that may help others is that per RockHard's install instructions, you don't actually need to drill new holes in the frame, you use the existing oval shaped hole visible in the video, and another hole that is hidden under the metal strap for the driver side hole. The RockHard plate's holes are spaced specifically for those existing holes. The metal strap holds the TPMS wireless receiver, you can remove it from the strap and just zip tie it into the same place on top of the frame.

Great video. I already bought the M/C. I do like the R/H mounting though. Like you mentioned nutserts require a fairly accurate hole that may be a challenge with hand drill. Thanks guys.

Jeremy McLerran I still have the crunchy paper on it. Been here for about a year while I’m sorting out some other issues with the jeep. The video makes me want to finally get around to putting it on.

After watching the video all the way to the end I am super excited I went with the Rock Hard version. My installation will be so much easier. I purchased the Metal Cloak Skid System for my JK and the installation was pretty straight forward, but messing with those nutserts is never a fun experience. I had to install 26 of them with my Poison Spyder rock rails and 2 with my skid system. I'm super excited the RH version does not use the nutserts. Great video and thanks for giving me some insight before I go install this afternoon.

Thanks for the footage. I did the HR 4×4 by myself. Easier with two people but not difficult alone.

If anyone has any problems, just flat head the little tab on the back of the emissions white valve on the box and or you can rotate it 180' or commen replace, dorman part# 310-215🤳✨

Thank you very much for this helpful video! I’m researching relocating my canister so I may install a potable water tank in it’s place. Can you share with the approximate dimensions of the space created by relocating the kit? Super ballpark figure would be greatly appreciated. (I got about 21"L x 9"W x 8"T). Thank you!
@1111Overland4 жыл бұрын
Ofer Morag I just did a quick measurement and The spot where the eve app canister used to be is about 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep by 30 inches long, but you’ve got the catalytic converter right there which will create significant heat, don’t know if you want your water tank close to that heat source. If you have a tank that can go past the catalytic converter you’ll get an extra 12 inches of length too. This is all assuming that you don’t mind the driveshaft being close to your water tank. One of the reasons I relocated my evap canister is to stay away from the driveshaft and avoid damage. If you wanted to put water storage above the driveshaft you would need to make sure your bump stops prevent the driveshaft from hitting that tank, but there is a space about The measurements you gave me, only I would suggest only 4 inches deep, unless you put in more bump stops

I've read enough comments on youtube to know if you don't get at least one ahole comment you did not do a very good job, So to make this a perfect video I will show my stupidly and make the comment. When you put the rubber bumper on the bottom of the MC bracket you DID NOT use vice grips, you used channel locks. Now its the perfect comparison video. Thanks.
@1111Overland5 жыл бұрын
bob rowe it’s funny you say that, because I’m CONSTANTLY struggling with tool and part names. I’m usually pretty good about catching them and re-filming it, but clearly not perfect!

For the Metal Cloak, what size is rivet nut. I have the tool but none of the mandrel that came with it fits.

Jeremy, as always, great video and this was great timing to see the comparison as I'm going to relocate my evap in prep for an upcoming Rubicon run. Question on your drill bit preference... Why didn't you use a step bit after the pilot hole? I also recommend coating the nutserts with red loctite to eliminate any possibility of nutsert slippage.
@1111Overland4 жыл бұрын
ksdurham totally agree on the step bit. I don’t think I had one at the time, but I do now and it’s one of my best tools. Loctite is always such a smart idea and for some stupid reason I always forget to do it. I need to be better at it.

I installed the Metalcloak Evap Relocate bracket in my '17 Rubicon Recon about 2 months ago. Install was easy. Definitely don't need a second set of hands to install this bracket.👍 But since I relocated the canister I've been getting evap leak codes. I've had it smoked and can't find the leak. I know the bracket isn't the cause for the leak. Just frustrating that I'm having such a hard time finding it.

@@1111Overland Wish I was in Utah. I live in San Diego. Replaced 2 of the OE hoses with the hoses that came with the kit. As you know Metalcloak only provides 2 hoses not 3 like Rock Hard.

This isn't the first i have heard of this, and the reason why I'm leary of buying one. I really want to relocate, but don't want any issues afterwards.

Me so far no problems! Both my Jeep and Ryan’s have been running perfectly.

So the RH is $30 more expensive but you need a $50 tool and a one time use drill bit to install the MC. The RH also protects the EVAP canister.
@1111Overland4 жыл бұрын
Todd Feaster the drill bit MC recommended didn’t perfectly fit the Nutserts supplied, I still had to “ream it out” a bit in order to get them installed, so I don’t know that you need to buy a special bit, just make sure you’ve got one large enough for those holes.

Evap canister simply stores fuel vapor so that it doesn’t get into the atmosphere. Then when the engine is running it slowly sucks the stored fuel vapor and burns it.
@1111Overland3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know it sucked it back in and burnt it up... excellent knowledge share, thank you!
@dansimmons38393 жыл бұрын
Yep. Absolutely nothing to do with the exhaust or “other chemicals” fuel vapor only.

@1111Overland5 жыл бұрын
M C you think so? Why?
@MrMctheking5 жыл бұрын
I like the relocate and skid idea. It was skidded for a reason. They are weak. An errant rock or beanie can break it. Doesn’t have to be landing on it or dragging it on stuff. I’m doing my TNT customs this weekend. Also with the rock hard they gave you the brake cable extension which you need with a lift kit. Or just let them hang like me. And smaller holes into frame. Not to mention nut certs are the biggest pain and a sandwich bracket is way stronger. For me no contest. Your reasoning for easier to remove doesn’t apply. The only reason you’ll ever remove it is because there’s no skid and it’s broken. Sorry.

Branch** not beanie. Lol

M C great points! I was very impressed with the approach Rock Hard took in designing this relo bracket. It was similar in some respects but different in significant ways. Thanks for taking the time to share your opinion!
