So glad you did this video. That’s what’s so helpful for us that are new to restoration or even just bike maintenance in general. Teach me like you’d teach a toddler. Thanks for all you do.

Thank you! I've always just aimed to help remove some of the barriers to motorcycling related to maintenance costs. I can't help new riders learn to ride, but I figured I might help them lower their cost of ownership a little.

The aluminium foil on chrome trick actually works without any other additive. It's because the aluminium is harder than the iron oxide (rust) but softer than the chrome finish. So it scrapes off the rust but does not damage the chrome.

Thanks for watching! There is also a chemical reaction happening in addition to "scraping." Iron oxide -> aluminum oxide.

Remember forcing a part on to my bike while it was on its stand and didn’t pay attention to the amount of force I was creating...over it went. Hey buddy, good video!

Mr Monk, Your very inspiring I have to say and very quick to respond, this I have to ask what is your favorite Bike? Just curious
@UrbanMonkTV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not sure I have a favorite. Each is so different. It is much like asking which of my record albums is my favorite. I really can't pick one. I love them all for different reasons. Wishy-washy answer I know, sorry. 🙂

question... i put coolent in my cx and im getting some weeping aroung where the new water pump gasket is will that stop once i get the bike fired up and the gasket swells a bit?
@UrbanMonkTV3 жыл бұрын
That "gasket" (more of an o-ring of sorts) gets out of its channel easily during installation. My first guess is it slipped out of place and got pinched.

Best rust on chrome cleaner I know is Easy-Off oven cleaner and 0000 steel wool. It's like magic. WEAR GLOVES the Easy-Off will eat your skin.

I'm managing it too. The first gaskets I wrecked. But it is difficult. 2nd time is faster😊

Horrible job. Doing it right now. Manifold gasket front: cut it to 24-22mm and put a bit of a chamfer on it. Drive it in 27mm , the from pipes fit a Dream. Of course before hand clean out the pipe with a drill grinding stone. Use exhaust fitting past, not repair paste.
