I’ve wanted this since Fulament came out with the very first model. It’s just super hard to justify when the whole system costs more than I paid for the printer. What would make a huge difference for me is if it came with a cable chain, mounts and hardware to safely relocate the bed wires to the top of the printer instead of the back. Many of us don’t have the space behind the printers to prevent the wires from slamming into the wall behind it repeatedly.

It's hard finding people that post videos of upgrades pertaining to the sidewinder. i have an X2 and i do get a bit jealous of the ender series bc there are a ton of people that have upgrade or mod videos of the the enders. but i will stick by my Sidewinder no matter what. So i really appreciate the time you put in this. and i hope i can find more of sidewinder upgrades

Thank you for this video! Just received my new bed and heater from Fulament for my Artillery Genius and, while Fulament has great instructions, this video was extremely helpful in getting everything installed.

Great video! I like my sidewinder but I strongly dislike the glass bed. This looks like an excellent upgrade. Thanks for sharing.

To remove glue easily you just have to get it warm with your normal, typical hairdryer, just use low heat settings and if possible a nozzle, when glue will get soft just remove it with a spatula or even barbeque stick - worked like a charm on all my x1 machines :).

As always great video. Two questions. What about the insulation under the heater? Also, as I’ve never used a PEI sheet, can you print straight onto it with PETG. Reminds me, need more hairspray 😄
@AndrewHelgeCox9 ай бұрын
I believe TPU is the tricky common filament on PEI, PETG should release after cooling.

You can get the hot glue off with IPA. It softens it enough to make it easy to remove.

How badly is the energy efficiency of the bed affected by not having insulation and a reflective layer under the heating pad? Does that also impact the temperature on the bed's top surface?

Do you know if this would work for the SW-X2. I just bought one and I put a magnetic bed directly on top of the glass bed but may do this instead if it works. If not hopefully they make a compatible upgrade for it soon.

This may be flat before heating a few hundred times but as the community knows cast beds hold their shape and flatness much better than these extruded ones, I would like to know how long this bed stays flat, I had my beds machined flat and they stayed flat for a month or so but after that they were nearly as bad as they started out
@Fulament2 жыл бұрын
We tested initial prototypes by slapping them onto 6 Sidewinder X1's, fully tightening the springs, and wrote gcode that moved them back and forth while heat cycling from 0-140C 24/7. After a little under 6 months, they were still perfectly flat! :)
