Excellent “how to” step by step explanation. The only thing I see missing (perhaps it’s somewhere on the cold water line outside of the camera viewing) is an expansion tank -👍🏽

Are those plastic liners inside the water connection nipples on top of it are supposed to be removed ? I've actually forgotten.

Yes those are shipping plugs that need removed before install

They are heat traps and should stay in place, you should NOT remove them.

Not typically, hw tanks are very routine maintenance...use a licensed plumber or someone you know and trust or who comes recommended by people you know
