The LiftMaster 85000 Jackshaft garage door opener is made for residential and light commercial use. Install on sectional doors with torsion spring assembly only. In this video we are installing the operator on a garage door with high lift track and there is a beam located in the ceiling of the garage making it impossible to use a traditional opener. The wall mount design frees the garage of hanging openers and eliminates sound and vibration through the ceiling. MyQ enabled technology with an advanced wall console, (888LM) and programming ability for freedom and control. A remote light that can be installed anywhere in the garage. Must have at least 3" between the ceiling and the torsion bar. 8" between the side wall and the end of the torsion bar. Torsion bar must extend 1-5" past the bearing plate. Also need an electric outlet. This unit is battery back up capable, but the battery is not included. Before installing any opener. The garage door must be in good working order and adjusted properly. One disadvantage of this model is that a vault release or external emergency release mechanism cannot be used with this unit. Also costs a bit more than your standard type opener. Overall, a good solid garage door operator.

crazy question.. Do you know the distance measured from the top to the bottom mounting brackets on the sides of your 8500 opener box frame? I am working with the mounting bracket for the unit (3950MB) and cannot seem to find the measurements for the length between the mounting holes top and bottom and the width of the box itself. I assume it is 5.25" but nobody has any specifications that I can find. Could you measure yours possibly? thanks! Its a great video!

Hi, I just finished my installation but when the door opener is operating I can see how it is moving right and left with the shaft. I assume that the shaft moves because of the spring. Is this normal?

I'm not sure what you mean. I think you mean that when the motor is bringing your door up, since the motor is twisting on the shaft, the shaft itself is twisting? Twisting between the two cables? If this is so, try tightening up the cable that's on the side of the door that's touching the ground a bit. Hope that works for you.

Can you add a 8500 opener to a ez set spring. If so the tortion sensor gets in the way of the door. Any ideas?

Just shove a resistor into the terminals for the sensor to bypass it.

Hi Does your 8500 move a little as the door opens and closes?

I copied and pasted this directly from the Liftmaster 8500 manual! The garage door opener moves when the door is in operation: • Some minor movement is normal for this product. If it is excessive the collar will wear prematurely. • Check to make sure the torsion bar is not moving left/right excessively. • Check to make sure the torsion bar is not visibly moving up and down as it rotates. • Check that the opener is mounted at a right angle to the jackshaft. If not, move the position of the mounting bracket.

@@TBHD724 I hope you are not an installer giving a false answer like that! This is directly from the Liftmaster 8500 manual! If the cable drums are not installed flush against the top bearing plates, this could cause the torsion tube to move a little bit causing the motor also to move.

The owner should've had the garage ceiling beam flushed into the ceiling, allowing the garage to open completely.
