These are actually the first jackshaft openers I have had in a house. Luckily we have a Mike to show us how to mount, wire, and program the whole thing and some of the issues you may run into in your own install. It looks much better without the rails in the way and opens up the space more.

Been running an 8500 since 2016 and love it. It's so quiet and necessary if you have a house with a bedroom above the garage. Everyone that sees mine ends up buying one for their garage. The battery backup is worth it when the power goes out.

I just got the chamberlain jack shaft, and I'm very happy with it. I like that this guy said in the video it's a easy install. When I got mine done I had to dam near fight with the installer cause he felt I should be charged more SMH. He tried to tell me that it was a more in depth install then a over head unit 🙄🙄 . Long story short I wasn't charged extra and the Install literally took 45 minutes.

I love these openers and had them installed in my new home last year. My only complaint is they aren't strong enough to power my larger RV garage door (900 lbs) and had to go with a standard style opener on that one to maintain the MyQ features (they have a commercial opener that isn't MyQ compatible. I set all the doors to auto close at 11pm to ensure I never go to sleep with a door open, one of my favorite features of the app.

I was a programmer at a garage door company, I built a 24 by 40 shop for my cars, I put a high lift “lift clearance” track system in and had the track and hardware powder coated for looks and quietness. You will find the jack shaft operator does not seal as well as the other mode. Because there is no way of locking the door to the header. I live in northern Illinois and the cold outside with the shop heated will cause the insulated door to bow in during the winter. So I have to seal the header in the winter to keep the cold outside. The shop closes in the fall and doesn’t open till spring. I keep my corvette and my wife’s beetle in for the winter (thermal bow). I have a lift so I wanted the jack shaft opener. Also I have a vaulted ceiling which required that type of operator. Just some tidbits from my experience. I also detail and do paint corrections on high end cars. I worked for Raynor garage door Company, the highest quality door on the market, bar none.

I installed 2 of these on my doors as well. I love the look and they are very quiet. Will never go back to a traditional opener if I can help it. I did install these on my own. Unfortunately mine came with the light units that use light bulbs and not LED. **************** Matt, if you dont want those lights I would be willing to buy them or if you were throwing them out certainly would pay shipping to swap mine out to use LED's.

@g.dubyou6263
@g.dubyou6263 2 жыл бұрын
@@Patrick94GSR it depends on what overhead opener you have. Some of the belt drive ones, are already very quiet. But if you have a loud one, this is going to be as quiet as one of the quietest belt drive models. All I hear is the door wheels when it’s running.

@@Patrick94GSR yeah, this is going to be way quieter than that. The only thing I would make sure is, that he has the wound overhead springs on the roll up. Because I had a Wayne Dalton assembly they ran on cables and I had to have it swapped out for the large overhead springs. Chain drive opener, sounds like it would have the large black tube springs, though.

@@ObsessedGarage The light fixture contains the beeper and flashing light function that UL requires for remote door operation. I don't own the 8500, but I do install them regularly and my understanding is that the app will still report door status but should give you an error if you try to open or close the door from the app. I've never tried using it without the light connected but will definitely test this next time I install one.

I can confirm this is true 100%. When I finished installing my new CREE lights I pulled the Liftmaster LED lights and tossed them in the trash. Only to figure out a week later the app no longer functioned. That was a nice $150 lesson learned.

when mounting two side-by-side like you did, what would you estimate the minimum amount of available space needed to be? i'd like to mount my two between the two doors like you did, but don't know if i have enough room. basically how far apart are your rails, and how much space is between the openers after install?
@Dfk429S9fo3
@Dfk429S9fo3 2 жыл бұрын
Basically twice the width of the opener plus room for the shafts. You might need to trim them down to get you a little more room. Thinking when my cousin did his, he only has like 18" in between.

crazy question.. Do you know the distance measured from the top to the bottom mounting brackets on the sides of your 8500 opener box? I am working with the mounting bracket for the unit (3950MB) and cannot seem to find the measurements for the length between the mounting holes top and bottom and the width of the box itself. I assume it is 5.25" but nobody has any specifications that I can find. Could you measure yours possibly? thanks! Its a great video!

It looks like the cable tension monitors were installed on the brick, the sensor won't function if the cables come off because the plastic roller will hit the 2x6 under the drum and the microswitch won't get depressed.
@blake8297
@blake8297 2 жыл бұрын
Does it need that much slack in the cable to trip the switch? I figured it would take very little slack to trip it.
@shredmonster76
@shredmonster76 2 жыл бұрын
@@blake8297 it doesn't require much slack, but the way they are mounted here, the lever can't collapse fully because it will hit the 2x6 before the switch is depressed. in this situation i would probably mount them on the horizontal 2x6 instead, just above the door. you can orient them anyway you need to as long as they are mounted to the same plane as the track. Jackshaft operators are great, but this sensor is vital to prevent cables off/door off track/door falling.

19:38 That cable tension monitor is installed incorrectly, the instructions call for 3/4 In clearance, you should have placed a wooden 2/4 block behind it (recommended by the Chamberlain the Mfr of Liftmaster go watch their youtube video) due to the 2x6 padding around your door opening. The tension monitor protects from loose and broke cables a loose cable can come off a drum if for example the door were to open to far or a drum slipped on the jackshaft. Its less likely for 3/4 inch of slack to come off a drum than 2" slack to fall off which is what your install allows 25:15.
