Great info. Looking at doing the same. What model/manufacturer cable did you use to connect your nmea2000 network to the command link hub? If you have a part number it would really help. Trying to make sure I get the right one. After a month, I'm still waiting for a reply from Lowrance... Some of their literature says you have to use one of yamaha's gateway devices as an interface between the command link hub and the nmea2000 bus, as far as I can tell. Don't want to if I don't have to. Looks like your system works well without one. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for the video, very informative. One question, I am linking my Yamaha 4S to Lowrance HDS9 Carbon via that same "Yamaha Bus" but can not find a short cable (need 1mt). They all seem to be 4mt plus. Can you buy them shorter, cut down and re-join or just fold up excess cabling under helm??. Hope you can help. Thks

The oem Yamaha cables are longer, there are several aftermarket ones that are only 12-18"

with a Yamaha CLP and network block do I need to use the Yamaha Gateway? Can I just run a cable from available open white network plug direct to my simrads NMEA2000 port? And if not do I need to get a starter kit and build a backbone first? Thanks,

You need the starter kit and backbone. The units do not supply power to support the network communication.

@@ChasingPelagics There is a difference between Yamaha Command Link, and Yamaha Command Link PLUS? With Command Link you only need the cable? And with Command Link PLUS you need an NMEA-gateway, that is more expensive?

For some reason when I did this it powered up my gauges and sent power to my motor without the key being on. Any clue why?

Its sending power over the bus, just like a POE internet cable. You need to switch your power source to the key switch.

Yes, they gateway needs to supply the line voltage for the bus’s system to work.

@@ChasingPelagics my new boat will have a gauge package off of 2 Yamaha motors. I will install the NMEA 2000 backbone. Are you saying that I would need to get the gateway in order to have my Garmin chart plotter gauges read the engine information? Or can I plug the one Yamaha link cable into the hub and then to my backbone that would also go to my Garmin? Kind of confused. Thanks

@@Glory-Days-Fishing the NMEA network is basically a hub. It’s not a smart device and doesn’t generate its own power. You building the backbone with as many device slots as needed and plug the devices into the backbone. The backbone power should be triggered by key on or a electronics switch. You can’t plug one device into another device, they have to be plugged into the backbone.
