Install SSL on windows localhost WAMP | HTTP + SSL = HTTPS

This video will demonstrate how to use HTTPS ( HTTP + SSL ) with WAMP. Many times it is required for academic projects.
1. We are using OpenSSL
2. We will generate self signed SSL certificate & private key for this demo with AES-256 encryption with key size 2048 bits.
3. HTTPS will encrypt all communications between your browser and the localhost website hosted on WAMP server.

Excellent tutorial. Worked for me right after completion of the last step. Of course your browsers are complaining that the self-signed cerificates are not secure, but with localhost that's all you can expect.

Thank you Ankit. For anyone that gets an "orange" icon after WAMP restart, your port 443 is probably in use by another task. In my case it was VMWare Host. Here's the steps to fix it: - In CMD, cd to your Desktop - Enter "netstat -aon > ports.log" and browse the ports.log to see which PID is using port 443 - In Task Manager, go to "Details" tab and it will tell you the application name with that PID - Close the application (ideally change its settings to not use port 443) and restart WAMP If that doesn't solve it, and no errors are being written to Drive:\wamp\logs, view your Windows Logs for the reason. - Right click on My Computer in the Start menu, and select "Manage" - In Computer Management, open Event > Windows Logs > Application - You should see "Error" in the Level column with "Apache Service" in the Source column - This will contain the issue that you can search on Google for a solution

I checked the applications and none of them, except Apache HTTP Server is using it. In ssl_error.log I see some lines stating: "server certificate does NOT include an ID which matches the server name", could that be the problem? Any advice please? Thanks

Thank you so much bro! It works perfect also with an SSL certificate issued by a CA (I tried with a free one). This instructions are far better that the ones given by the CA. If anyone wants to know, when doing it with the certificate I said, you only need to also uncoment the line for SSLCertificateChainFile and add the path to the "yourserver.ca-bundle" file that they will give you along with your certificate. Also you can make external access to your server only https by adding "Redirect / www.yourwebsite.com/" in the httpd-vhosts.conf file, inside the tag. That worked for me like a charm. Also don´t forget to redirect the port 443 and the port 80 also in your router to your internal ip address.

If you get error: Cannot load modules/mod_ssl.so into server: The specified module could not be found. You may want to try to searching libeay32.dll in your wamp folder, you probably find it in {wamp folder}/bin/php/php{version 7}/Copy libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll and paste them into {wamp folder}/bin/apache/apache{version 2.x}/bin/ AND {wamp folder}/bin/php/php{verion 5.x}. MAKE SURE you backup anything you are placing.

when i tried the same.. i found one issue "the ordinal 371 could not be located in the dynamic link library" after hours of struggling i found this working solution for me. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> To fix the issue, two things are needed: 1) Make sure that you don't have symbolic links for libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll in your Apache bin directory (For example, mine is: C:\wamp64\bin\apache\apache2.4.23\bin) If you do have symbolic links (i.e. the file size are 0 bytes), you need to download the dlls from Apache Lounge. For example, I grabbed the two .dll files from the 64-bit version of Apache 2.4.23 hosted at www.apachelounge.com/download/ 2) Once you have the actual .dll files restored, you need to make sure that WampServer isn't overwriting them. WampServer 3 has a configuration script that runs every time it starts. In that script it will overwrite those .dlls with symbolic links. You must DISABLE that functionality. To do so, comment out the references to those two files in: C:\wamp64\scripts\config.inc.php (mine were located at lines 133 and 139).

I had the same error, the problem was OpenSSL version. If your OS is 64bit you should install Win64 OpenSSL v1.0.2j version from slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html. I hope it will help you.

I got the same error just make sure to install the right version of the ssl... slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html mine fixed when installed the 64bit 1.0.2J, if your system is 64bit install that one otherwise install the 32bit, and also don't forget to install visual basic 2008 c++ redistributable! Hope it helps!
