Great video. Wish the fj cruiser bumper opens the same way as the gx bumper. Then you can use the door and swing out as a work area/kitchen

1:15 To grease your bearing place grease in the palm of your hand roll the bearing into the grease watch for grease pushing through the bearing, roll the bearing, and repeat.

Great video -- will likely buy one of your bumpers when I pick up a 470. However, your packed the bearing incorrectly for the rear swing arm. Since it's not for a wheel, may not be a big deal, but for the picky out there, this might stand out.

What kind of gas do people run on the Lexus? I'm guessing premium high octane gas is hard to get in some remote places?

Toyota calls for premium in the GX470. You're right though it can be tough to find in remote locations. Octane boost can help when only regular is available.

the bumper isnt bolted to the frame anywhere, its just held on by the clamp force of those 8 bolts and a couple of plates?

Two bolts on each side pass through the frame rail. Four grade 8 bolts in total should be sufficient for a decent tug off of a rock.

What brand and size of lift are you running on the Lexus ? Also size of tire ? Looks like a great rear bumper. I just purchased one if these vehicles and am looking to outfit it in a similar way

Sorry I can't give you too many specifics since this is not our truck. The owner can be found over on IH8MUD in the J120 forum. The tires are 35" and I believe he runs an ICON lift. Check out IH8MUD/J120 and you will find lots of mod ideas for your GX470.

with the V8 the bumper doesn't really move the needle... the lift and bigger tires are the pain point for MPG on the GX.

I think these look very nice, but I'm worried about the added weight to the vehicle and the detrimental effect this might have on handling. The gx is already top heavy, now it seems like this, with the tire and fuel, might add 400lbs to the upper back.

you are dead on to be worried about adding weight... one of my pet peeves is adding tons of weight that doesn't provide value. Metal Tech 4x4 spends a lot of CAD time engineering their bumpers to ensure they have weight where it is needed and reduce weight where they can. You should give them a call to find out more about how they keep the weight on this bumper to as low as possible while still providing the protection you want for your truck.

I understand that... However, even on Toyota/Lexus tolerances are bigger than you would think. By assembling and being able to make adjustments you get a custom look for your individual truck.
