Thank you very much for this tutorial! My wife and I put a couple of pieces of wood at the bottom just to keep the screen level while drilling the holes in. That way the other person who isn't drilling could concentrate on holding the screen in as close as possible. This might help if you're doing this by yourself too.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I just purchased this exact same screen door and am excited to finally leave the doors open in our living room without fear of bringing in flies inside the house. Our door opening is actually 30” inches, but I was told in Home Depot that this door would still work with some minor adjustments. Let’s see, hopefully it does because my favorite feature is how it closes on its own.

Although it does close on its own, I'm not sure it is wise to let it do that all the time. More often than not I manually close mine.

Paola Arletty This might sound a little silly, but be careful you don’t accidentally walk through the screendoor when it is in place, Ha ha. It is actually easier to do than you might think. Particularly when you’re not used to having a screen door in the doorway.
@paolaarletty65254 жыл бұрын
Oh my, you’re right! We had the door installed this morning and my brother walked right into it, thankfully gently. However, the screen is now not as taught as I would like. The fabric sort of needs to be re-rolled to remove an annoying wrinkle it has. We actually had to cut 2 inches off the sides of the door to fit into our 30 inch opening, so perhaps this is why the fabric is not stretched as taught 😩 Don’t know how I will get the fabric to stretch more? Very nice tutorial. I have had my retractable screen for over a year. Today, for some unknown reason, it won't retract - the spring roller inside seems to be broken. I'm wondering if you know if there's someway to reset the spring? There is a grey round thing on the top where the center axis of the spring roller seems to be. Any ideas?

Does the seal adapter “need” to be installed? …Is it acting as a support system for the base of the door?
@michaelerbreviews Жыл бұрын
No, I don’t suppose you absolutely need to install the sill adapter. However, there would be sort of a trip hazard if you don’t. The bottom track would be sticking up, whereas the sill adapter ramps up to it. It will also add some structural integrity to the bottom track.

Your comment about there being another version of this door to fit 31 7/8 to 33 15/16” openings is incorrect. That Dimension is the opening for a 32” door one already has on their home. This luminaire retractable screen door will fit either a 32, or 36” door size. In fact, I installed mine yesterday on my 32” doorway with a rough opening of less then 31 7/8” by cutting the top and bottom screen guides as directed in appendix A. One just needs a hacksaw or reciprocating saw. Just thought you would like to know....

When you open or close it does it bind on the tracks? Or does it always open and close smoothly?

Mine doesn't bind but I would say it will definitely lag a bit if you attempt to open it too quickly. I do vacuum the track periodically to keep it clean because debris can collect in the track which could cause binding at some future time.

Thanks for creating an extremely helpful and easy to follow video. I have to first figure out which area to measure. 😕 In the meantime, I noticed the comment on strong airflow. That is sometimes the case for me. Do you not recommend this door in that case?
@michaelerbreviews4 жыл бұрын
Rita Cory in my experience, If you have strong airflow, it is very likely that the bottom of the screen will be pushed out of the track. It would not be an ideal solution in that case. Having said that, if you are careful and remember to close the opposing windows that enable the flow-through, it reduces the risk of that happening. That's what I try to do. It's frequently windy where I live but I like having the option to have the screen so I just try to keep the airflow to a minimum by closing other windows.
@hiphopwingvid3 жыл бұрын
Is it eve necessary to install the threshold?
@michaelerbreviews3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, yes. It protects people from kicking the bottom of the screen track and avoiding what would be a tripping hazard.
@onelemonpixel4 жыл бұрын
In the Q&A questions on the HomeDepot website it says this can only be installed on the outside and not inside. Is that true? I would like to install it on the inside of my house and the door opens outwards onto a balcony.
@michaelerbreviews4 жыл бұрын
If your door opens out, then I suppose you might be able to install this on the inside. It wouldn't be particularly attractive and I'm not sure how the threshold would work out. It would also be problematic if you had moulding around the doorframe.
@onelemonpixel4 жыл бұрын
@@michaelerbreviews Thank you
@michaelerbreviews4 жыл бұрын
One significant issue that I've discovered since installing this is that if you have strong airflow through the screen from another open window or door in the house, the force of the air may cause the bottom of the screen to blow out of the lower track. That could be a real problem for some people. It could also eventually cause more serious issues with the screen over time.

The threshold angled like that is unsightly and a tripping hazard. I lowered mine so that threshold was much more level and added a filler at the top of the door. I'd also like to findout how to adjust the tension. There seems to be one adjustment point that rotates but on my door thst doesn't seem to increase the tension so the door will open faster. It is very slow now and not because of the dampened at the other end of the door.
