I installed a Steed Speed Exhaust Manifold in my 3rd Gen Cummins and clamped it down with some Fleece studs. I kept the stock turbo to see if it would make a noticeable different. Enjoy the content. More upgrades coming soon! 🍻

You did good on the studs, Stainless generally does not play nice with cast iron under high heat, however antisieze makes it all good. plus the 12 point nuts make the manifold fitment look sexy...Apriciate the video

On Fleece water by pass please put in a fail safe thermostat and when your thermostat goes bad it always goes to the open open position that way it lets you keep on trucking. I wish the made a better place to put thermostat so you can change with out the all day job for a bad thermostat, good luck or just leave it out.

J.J.’s Garage So, that hose is of no use then? Is the bypass part of that larger braided hose running above the exhaust manifold?
@j.j.sgarage14573 жыл бұрын
@@masonpauls Yes that braided line is part of the bypass. the hose that wraps around the back of the engine is for the trans heater so its pretty much useless unless you live in Alaska lol. Go check out the video I made about the bypass I explain everything there!👍🏽

Steed makes great stuff, and innovative for whatever they're into at the time. Many years ago when I ran around in imports, Steed was one of the few that had turbo mani's for the KA Nissan engines and a really cool inline BOV. Steed is definitely the mani I'd go with too for the 3rd gen 5.9. It's on my wishlist!

On my 2005 3500 dually 4x4, Just took off turbo and manifold and had exact same issue, had to grind wrench to get it on the nut. My exhaust manifold had shrunk a lot, the bolts were binding all the way to the end, every bolt but the last 2. Ground the bolt holes over about 2 -3 mm. A tiny bit of play is normal in the compressor wheel, I took turbo apart and measured old and new bearings, and absolutely no wear. I thought maybe bearings were worn, so really did not need to do anything, there was some carbony sludge in the seal ring of the turbine. So used a rebuild kit and a stepped gap turbine seal ring. Still waiting on a 16 inch extra large snap ring plier to put turbo back together.

Was the stud behind the flange on the bottom side easily accessible? I currently have a 2 piece and that stud behind the flange on bottom is literally behind the flange and a pain in the ass, every time I finally get it as tight as I can it backs off with time and starts leaking again

Can you take a temperature gun to the exhaust manifold to see if the back cylinders are cooler and or the same temperature as the front cylinders

Is that a stock EGT probe? If so what adapter did you use?
@fullfuelranch13583 жыл бұрын
Great video man! Exactly right on the two ports in the manifold, the second one would be used to measure drive pressure between the cylinder head and turbo. Most of the time drive pressure will be higher than boost. High drive pressure most generally comes with high egt's.

Question - With using the Fleece studs, do you have to remove the bottom studs for ALL exhaust manifolds to install properly? I have an AFE SS Blade Runner with install issues. Maybe, I need to remove the downpipe Elbow to get them to install? My downpipe elbow is still connected to the downpipe. Thx

Would it be possible to leave turbo in place and pull out the manifold only?
@j.j.sgarage14573 жыл бұрын

Nice video. Great job. By the way...how do you like your Fleece coolant bypass?
@timspire31424 ай бұрын
They are great. They also need a ball valve to shut off or restrict flow during the winter. Impossible to build heat in the engine, thus triggering a thermostat rationality code and check engine light. Letting it warm up with the exhaust brake on can prevent that. However, when it is 25-to30 Fahrenheit out, the coolant temp will drop into the 130's or 140's once you start driving. This results in the inability to maintain heat in the truck cab.
