Again love the video. My dad is 85 in the hospital at the moment, gave me a 16x7.5 trailer last week. I had in the past tried to buy it from him. I'm going to convert it,at least my plan. I will be chatting with you later, Haven't had much down time lately. If nothing rips,tears or comes unravelled, I plan for our paths to cross one day. Love your videos

You're going to really enjoy that trailer and it's a great size for long term travel and camping. Praying for your dad.

Fun to watch. Also made me realize maybe portable will be better for us. I like the idea though! Enjoyed it! Take care!

The thing about having solar on your roof is that it's always there producing power, even when you are driving. I think that you need both.

Thanks, Rick and Linda. It's nice to see someone appreciate QA. I talk through the steps with my wife so she can stop me when I miss a step. There's often not enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it again. I gotta get the nerve to punch through my roof. I'll get there because roof-mounted panels reduce insolation; are always stowed and deployed; and, much harder to steal.

You have it all right! Both on having your wife double check your intentions and on the solar!

Looks good Rick, and girl power comes in handy, with three daughters I can attest to that. Also you mentioned sealing the perimeter of the roof where it joins to the body and that is a good idea, my last trailer had a leak at that very point. Went to a tractor trailer repair center and they sold me a roll of a product called flash bond, four inches wide heavy aluminum outer with a black sticky down side, worked a charm on the leak but the damage was already done behind the wall and the floor.

I saw that tape and it's supposed tp work really well, but I'm trying the Flex Seal this time around.

Thank you for your info...... I have found 400 watts is most practical for me.....and the 500W solar charger seems to be most convenient, portable, and useful

I have moved on from that style of caulking guns to the bigger stronger tradesman's style. Essentially the same thing, but it works.

Looks like you kids are back home. This is a much better setup for your attachment. Did you add a panel? More roof coverage will keep the trailer interior cooler. I noticed a bit of difference on my truck camper after getting my 4 panels installed. Personally, I got rid of the mp4 connectors on the panels. I know too many people who've had one problem with another. I went with Panduit butt crimp connectors and shrink wrap.
@gonagain
@gonagain Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip on the connectors, I may need that. Yeah, we removed two 200watt panels and replaced them with these two 300watt ones. With the first panels there was a noticeable difference in the temperature inside, so these should be even better.

Now I'm not the kind of guy who goes around making comments on another man's caulking gun all willy-nilly. I will say that you are giving my Home Depot, sheet metal caulking gun an inferiority complex.

I was always skeptical of Flex Seal because of how it was marketed originally but I’ve recently used it in a couple of applications for my boat trailer and was pleased with the outcome. I am coating galvanized metal that is exposed to salt water and over time will begin to rust.. only time will tell but it has to extend the rust prevention.

I guess we'll see, because I just bought a quart. Kinda spendy though.

My cousin used Flex Seal on the whole roof (rolled it on) of his 6X12 box van, and three years later, still looks like new. I used the spray on version on certain parts of my roof, and I'm liking it so far. I plan on doing the whole thing too, eventually. I like to over gauge my wires too. I'm pushing 65-70 volts thru 10 gauge wire, for my 24 volt system. I don't think your panels are going anywhere. I think you are gonna really like the new system. I can't wait for your review on it.

That's good to hear about the Flex Seal. We're pretty excited about having more solar to keep up with those cloudy days and I'll let you know how it works out for sure.

Those are "Big Panels" ... and my guess is because they are a few inches off the roof with some air movement between they will make the interior cooler while in the sun on hot days ... if your trailer is aluminum frame you should use plastic washers on stainless steel screws at the contact points to avoid electrolysis corrosion when they get wet ... as you probably know being a sailor the closer you are to salt water this becomes more important .. learned that from a trailer fabricator ... I placed my "Through Hull" fitting for the solar cables on a side panel high up to avoid putting holes in the one piece aluminum roof ... I figured it's much easier changing one side panel than a roof panel ... I had to change a panel once behind a wheel a few years ago and it's not that hard or complicated .. a roof not so much ..

That's good information for everyone, Richard, thank you. I saw a sculpture down on Seattle's waterfront that was made from aluminum and brass. It had to be hosed off with fresh water daily because it was literally a battery.

OK. Gotta ask: do you work out? You’re packing some pretty nice guns there. I think I’m a couple years younger than you but I wish my arms still looked like that. By the way, ‘girl power’ is the way to go if you can swing it. My wife keeps me from goofing up all the time. Signed, Your neighbor just down the road (in Helena).

I have a question there is two of you and one of me. Can I get away with 300 watts with the luxuries you have?
@gonagain
@gonagain Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you can, but you'll have to use the Starlink sparingly. More solar is good for those cloudy days where the sun isn't cooperating as well.

Your vehicles alternator will provide more than enough amps to charge your batteries while driving. I wish we could talk, I could help you be more efficient with your electric needs and those of your viewers. I have way more DC draw then you do and produce sufficient voltage to keep my batteries charged with only a 200 watt suitcase system.
@gonagain
@gonagain Жыл бұрын
Hello Larry, I can always use more knowledge! I do know that to do that I would need to install a DC to DC charger in order to protect the lithium batteries, but I've never really felt the need to charge while driving for my personal usage.

I thought you might have had something to do with boats when you brought up 5200, I dealt with some boat guys in Ft. Myers that swore by it and used it on everything, we were in the appliance business, it was scary what they relied on it to do, and it did the job. normal appliance sealant was 800
