Job turned out nice and you were able to keep the minimum 2' separation between the existing and new pipe. And yes, you are correct about the pipe materials. Longevity wise, if they wanted to stick to metal pipe, it should have been aluminized, type 2 coated metal pipe instead of galvanized. And they might regret not taking out the old pipe if the bottom is already rusted out...
@eliteearthworksllc
@eliteearthworksllc 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Ok good I thought you had said before it was 18”-2’ separation. Yeah that is true too on the aluminum. From what I can see the old pipe seem ok on the bottom but not sure for how much longer. Appreciate the comment

@@eliteearthworksllc It's actually a minimum separation of 2' between duel culverts for 24" diameter and larger to allow for proper compaction. I had to laugh a little bit at the 6:20 mark while you were digging over top the gas line and the dump truck exhausted air when the compressor shut off. You can only do what they want you to do. In the contract if they don't want to do it the way I see as the proper way to do it i put that in the contract and make them sign it releasing me from any and all liability. By putting that in writing it generally changes their minds to see it my way and end up doing it my way. It basically tells them that it's going to cost them much more money down the road doing it their way and it's them that's going to eat all of the costs. You done a great job and looks really good especially compared to the other culvert.

That looked like an engineered-arch shape, I can't really tell from this video, and I can only guess at the dimensions, If it is 53" x 41" arch. the round pipe equivalent is a 48 inch round pipe. The arch pipes don't need much cover, one foot is the minimum. So if the arch pipe were to be replaced, it needs a replacement pipe larger than 48 inches. big freaking pipe, and expensive and usually special order in double-wall plastic. If the original (inadequate) culvert pipe was equivalent to a 48 inch round pipe --- to get the same volume of water --- you would need to install ***3.2*** 30 inch culvert pipes Or, ***2.1*** 36 inch culvert pipes. All of this is just math and equations, you can't cheat physics. Here's the equation, everyone uses an on-line calculator instead. How do you calculate flow rate through a pipe? is the volume of fluid per unit time flowing past a point the area A. Here the shaded cylinder of fluid flows past point P in a uniform in time t. The volume of the cylinder is Ad and the average is ¯¯¯v=d/t v ¯ = d / t so that the is Q=Ad/t=A¯¯¯v Q = Ad / t = A v ¯ . I'm still wondering what the other guy was there for? Brandon does the work, his dad supervises Brandon, what does the third guy do? And why the backhoe? Tradition? Thanks Brandon for the video. And many times your voiceover is very helpful and better than the camera audio.

The owner's logical thinking is confused. 2 pipes equal half the amount of water flow in each equals 2 times the life expectancy. Sounds great on paper, not so much in real life.

my neighbor was getting his driveway redone and the city will replace the culvert for free with a green plastic pipe. He didn't like the green plastic so he bought his own galvanized metal one and they installed it for him. Some times its just personal choice. Guess bright green plastic isn't attractive.

Even double wall plastic would have been an improvement over Rusty Metal Pipe. When the 36" pipe starts getting holes in it they'll have to dig the road up again. Can't be helped, some people are all dollars and no sense.

Lol lol some people think they know better than the contractor when they dont know crap about any of that. So maybe if the road floods again they will think about that and say well the contractor was right. Maybe we should shut up and listen to the recommendation. Some times I know its money that makes the decision too. Thanks for the video. At least ur kinda following in ur dads steps. Just a little advanced. Thanks again buddy. Practice makes perfect buddy. There are plenty of places where I think plastic is a bad idea. This is not one of those places. In fact I think you'd be a fool not to use plastic here. And an extra fool not to replace the existing pipe that's starting to egg out while you've got the road torn up. Not like it would have added an enormous amount to the job in either time or materials.
