I have seen this done a couple of times...the only thing i did not like..was the fan blowing directly on the eggs..so I did some thinking and came up with a penny solution!
I am not an electrician! This is not a How To Video..this is a How I do it video.

Your hair looks fine! :) Chickie update! Broody #2 hatched out 2 chickies last night!! Both are from green eggs. There was a small brown egg under her too, but I will be surprised if that one hatches. She is a first time mom and she's only about a year old herself! She is being a good momma. :) My friend got 2 BR chicks at the feed store today and put them under her. All 4 are doing well. :D

I did that, but now my secondary thermometer probe won't show accurate temperature anymore?! Where would you put the probe now? The humidity probe works fine, but the thermometer probe is thrown off due to the 'air'!

ahhhhhh the sound of styrofoam bending makes my teeth itchy!!! for the canucks, Pauto has 'snail shaped' 12v fans for 4.99 if you look in the 'discount' section... very concentrated air flow. perfect for solar furnaces, solar dehydrators, incubators...

Thank you! I like the shield idea and haven't seen that in other tutorials and wondered if it was OK to put blowing air on eggs because it didn't seem to simulate a mother hen if air is blowing directly on them. I wanted to do a shield on mine but wasn't sure how to safely put one on until I saw your video, thank you!

Thank you so much for this! I'm on the fence with buying or making a 'bator - and the air movement seems important. I can get the incubator you show for about $40 and would still have to get a fan, but that's cheaper than the kit they sell for the unit to add a fan. The 'bator already has everything else needed except the egg turner. You are just so creative!

+dany richard I recommend installing the fan so that the air blow TOWARDS the lid..then you don't NEED the shield! I am glad this video helped!

Bev, I think I should share a little something regarding those fans. The small fan is meant for cooling a hard drive or smaller desk-top PC. The larger size fan (what you called "the regular fan") is the most common size case fan for a typical tower PC. So if someone has an old tower PC they want to get rid of, you could harvest the case fan off that PC and it'll be a regular-size fan for your incubator. One note of caution: If the computer was pretty old (like a home computer instead of a office machine) it's likely that fan has done a long spell of duty and probbly has worn bearings and an accumulation of dust. Dust is especially likely in a home PC. They get long usage, but very little cleaning. This means you might not get much use from them before they fail. When they do fail, I hope you get to your eggs before they cook. Your best bet is to head to your local (SMALL) electronics store, where you can get the small computer parts they don't sell at big box stores. I don't know if Canada has Radio Shack. If you do, they're perfect. You just go in and ask for a 4 inch PC case fan. They're as common as dirt and almost as cheap but being new won't have much dirt in em, nor any wear-and-tear on em. Or you can order them from the interwebz. Check pricewatch.org for deals. ---> www.pricewatch.com/price/fans/case I hope this helps at least a little. Matthew
