Installing a floating shower bench

Hi there! Just found your videos and I am installing a bench like this in my shower. What type of screws did you use to screw in the stainless steel pieces and what type of scissors/ metal sheers are those?

Do you tile the walls or the bench first? We are redoing our shower and are wonder which to do first?

I did the walls before doing the bench top and bottom. But, I usually do the floor of the shower as the first tiling then cover it with cardboard.

But Schluter is soo spongy. I’m afraid of the wall board crushing over time as the weight pushes down on the bench. Cracking any sealing that is done.

The bench metal is supposed to e cut into the Schluter and attached directly to the frame eliminating this problem.

Looks good, but i wouldn't want to rely on that thin aluminum frame for the sheer forces for a floating bench. I would be hesitant to even do that for a floating shelf. GoofProof makes a great floating bench, tile ready, thick ABS that you can lag bolt right in to studs.

Where can I find a 2" channel?

AkitaPowers Do a search for Schlueter 2 inch channel and see where you can buy it locally. If there is a Lowe’s they should be able to order it for you since they are carrying a large line of Schlueter products.

Blocking in the wall?

Absolutely! Blocking is 2x4s that are strategically placed so that when the sheet metal framing is attached to the wall it has something sturdy to get screwed into.
