For anyone trying to do this solder L to TP9 R to TP8 Select to TP2 if do what he does in the video it wont behave correctly

@@charlesbarnes3654 I did mine 4 days ago and had the same problem the top comment did where select lower the brightness. I found another video more detailed with the actually points to solder. Like he did with select I found it better to just solder L and R to the same side he soldered Select

I've done this mod for 12 GBAs now and gave about half of them for gifts. I've never put any material on the back of the screen for "insulation" and not had one problem with shorting.

@@Grey4lif3 I'm not in the market to do this. I'm merely a hobbyist. There are a number of folks who will gladly take your money for the mod. But honestly, don't be apprehensive about doing it yourself. Buy the screen from Funnyplaying and just follow Mahko, or a number of other KZbin gurus for a tutorial and you'll be gtg.

Used this tutorial for a precut shell, so ignored that part, also didn't do any soldering wires for brightness controls. But still loved how simple it was to follow. Thanks for this 👍

For some reason the areas that I soldered to did not do that specific lighting. Select ended up making it dimmer and holding down select and pressing right trigger made it brighter

Nice work, thanks for the vid!. I found out that soldering those right and left shoulder cables dont work on my gameboy so I had to left then unconnected to make the buttons work properly...

The TP2 pad looks cooked on mine and I can't get anything to stick to it. Is there a secondary option to solder the "Select" wire from the IPS screen?

I think it'd look fine with the OG purple shell. I don't get why everyone needs to change the shell when upgrading the screen. Also by the way the OG screen has always been shit. I remember when it came out and my family waited for the SP because of the lack of backlight. (I would have been 8 years old)

I was terrible at soldering when I did my mod so the wire that's supposed to be soldered at the select button is mistakenly going out where it can be pressed by the battery holder from the back case and it was a long process of me trying to solder it properly for it to work so I gave up positioning it better. I am just waiting for the brightness adjustment to stop working now so I can finally have a reason to rewire it.

I bought a GBA with ips v2 on it, and original gameboy and GBC games freeze on it, sometimes on the intro screens, sometimes after playing a minute. Any ideas as to why?

is soldering directly the wire to the pin the same thing as putting some tin before ? i never soldered before and i'm worried if it could be an easy job or might need to avoid doing and install screen right out of the box with no brightness control.

Really cool modification. A bit unrelated but I'm getting in to hand held modding and restoration myself, but I'm missing some tools, and I was wondering if you would perhaps be able to give me some sources to where I can get them, I don't have a soldering iron, I dont have tweezers to work with ribbon cables, and I dont have a plastic prying tool for separating pieces and removing stickers. if you have a source where I can find such tools for a decent price it would be much appreciated if youd let me know. And another thing, if you haven't already, would you be able to make a video on how to replace the font lit screens on an original 2004 DS with backlit ones? It's a modification I want to do with an old beat up DS I was given by a friend but I'm afraid of messing something up and not have the touch screen working when I'm done. Sorry that, that was a lot in one comment but I wanted to say it all before it slipped my mind.

i would source from somewhere like ebay, get som cheap tools if you enjoy and want to carry on then i would like to getting branded ones (& spending more money on them) and sure i an do a screen only video at some point i do have a full shell swap which would include the screen part

So I just got mine in and was wondering what kind of battery I should use? It seems to drain my normal batteries insanely fast so I was looking into eneloop batteries. Would those be good?

Handheld Legend or Retromodded drop in rechargeable battery would be your best bet.

Rechargeable AA's from Energizer or Duracell. You can get some high capacity 4 packs with a charger, and they last for atleast a week on my xbox controller
