You would be surprised that after flying for 35 years then taking off 15 how much you forget... Not to mention the fact that since 1996 my last year flying how many things have changed. Gas engines are the norm, and they are much larger than the old .45 .60 nitro engines we used to fly. The electronics in the new Futaba radio's just about take a course at the local college to learn how to set up and program... So seeing this video really helped refresh my memory since I just purchased 7 giant scale war birds, bi-planes and stunt planes to build (box) and (ARF), over the winter... Thanks for putting this vid together! 63 aint old its just about the right age that you appreciate building and taking the hobby more seriously... My expense to enter back into the sport?... Just a little over $10,000.00 including a brand-new trailer to haul the big toys to the new clubs airport I also just joined... It feels great to be back...

Well, this was timely advise; I'm about to trial fit my engine tonight! I'll be sure to examine the stand-off distance carefully and mark the throttle hole with the engine trial mounted. I also like the chaff guards; I'm amazed how destructive the vibrations of a 50cc can be.

Great video. I have mounted a few motors but nothing more refreshing than watching someone on youtube that actually knows what there talking about

you've been a great help at exactly the right time. I'm building my first gasser after flying electric for a while and your videos are very informative. I just skipped over nitro because it is too expensive.

One of the biggest reasons I like producing this kind of content is for people like you. I am fortunate in that I remember being new to the hobby and the confusion that can set in quickly. Stay tuned, I am just getting started with this effort!

Great video! I just got a giant scale PT-19 and a P-51 and I am getting ready to install DLE engines in them. Only thing I did before was install my Saito .40 4 stroke nitro on my Sig Kadet. Very different world of RC that was making me nervous. Thanks for the clear and informative video!

You will be fine. I think gas engines are easier to install than the old glow engines on beam-style mounts.

@veganautfpv1237 5 жыл бұрын
@@flyingrcdotnet yes, I hated mounting those beams. There was a Zenoah G23 in the PT-19, but we saw the shaft is bent, so I'm replacing it with a DLE35RA.

DA manual recommends not using standoffs with the exception of DA-35 or DA-50 mount it directly on the firewall with wood build up spacer.

I just watched your video on the mylar wing bags and I see you made them for your 1/4 $cale SuperCub, what motor do you have? Where did you locate your receivers, battery(ies)? Love your videos!

I know it had a DLE 40 twin in it but I don't remember where I put everything. I know I didn't have any trouble with CG

So here's my problem: I'm trying to convert a model I like (the Sukhoi 29) and want to buy, from electric to glow. As such, there's no firewall, and the plans would refer to the electric motor placements. Any pointers ? Thanls.

I keep forgetting this idea when he opportunity comes around but this time I am going to try and get it done. I have a brand new DA35 that needs to be started and set up so that would be a great subject for this How-To! Thanks for prodding me on!

I use regular gas that may have some ethanol in it. I use Redline racing synthetic oil and have never had a fuel related issue with any of my engines.

Haha ... and what do you do when you find out that thrust settings need altering? !
@flyingrcdotnet
@flyingrcdotnet 4 жыл бұрын
RC'rs have for decades been shimming engine mounts to tweak thrust line settings. Ideally we use a "wedge" that fits under all four mounting points rather than a washer under one or two to induce those changes permanently to remove stress on the mounts themselves.
@dynodom4677
@dynodom4677 4 жыл бұрын
