Hmm, some are installed with traps- some not.Some have vents / air intakes. Some not ...which way is correct?

You dont need to have trap. You need to have vent behind and some vent before grease trap

Why do you need a p-trap at the sink when it flows to an unsealed metal grease trap box?

Hi Dave! To be honest, I asked myself the same question, so I called the local inspector and he suggested to me that if I want to I can install it, but I don't have to. I wasn't sure how well this grease trap would work, so now I can easily remove it and connect the missing pieces without it. But you are right at least in my state there is no need to use P-trap in combination with grease trap.

@@JOE_JET Maybe if the grease-trap collects smelly water the sink p-trap would block the smell? Do you need a p-trap after the grease trap for code?

@@davejoseph5615 It can definitely help, because the grease trap part connected to the sink can let air and odors through. Behind the grease trap in my case another smaller sink was installed, this is not shown in the video and the codes do not require another trap, because the trap is in the grease box itself.

No, Y fitting is there because the second sink was installed next to the first one. However, this grease trap should be connected to the vent pipe, which is not visible here, because it is located in the wall

Can you write something more... If I'm honest this type of grease trap is, so unpopular that I couldn't get 100% reliable information even from a licensed plumber on how exactly to install it. Online information is also contradictory.

Every time you have a trap, you need a vent for it., and you also need a vent on the grease trap exit drain

@@nasrulsherul2059 Something like this rb.gy/9fchbg can be installed between the sink and grease trap. Normal vent pipe must be behind grease trap.
