In this video I installed a 200°F (93°C) thermostat for my Mishimoto oil cooler. The oil cooler sandwich plate from Mishimoto originally came with a 185°F (85°C), but with cold ambient temps the oil never gets to operating temperature where it stays around 170°F. I wanted the oil to stay around 190°F+ so I went with the 200°F thermostat. Oil temps now stay at the optimal temperature range of 185°F - 210°F (depending on ambient temp). I highly recommend anyone with a Mishimoto oil cooler kit to upgrade to the 200°F (93°C) thermostat to maintain the optimal operating oil temp.

Hey mate, any chance you have the size of the replacement please? I have an Aeroflow one but opens at around 70°c and there is no other choice, Mishimoto one looks exactly the same in size and shape as the Aeroflow but cant get any info anywhere about dimensions Thanks in advance!

If the environment where you live is extremely hot, then you don’t need the thermostat to regulate when the oil will go through the oil cooler. Since you will see very high ambient temps and need the oil to always cool, you can run a non-thermostat oil cooler. It may take longer for you oil to heat up but the oil cooling will not be dependent on a thermostat. I would message the manufacturer you are buying the oil cooler from for their recommendation as well just to confirm 👍 best of luck

No real performance gains but you have more peace of mind knowing your engine is much more protected than the OE setup

Hello, the temperature of the mishimoto thermostat is the temperature it starts to open or when it's fully open ? Thank you

Opens at that temp and the oil cooler helps regulate to get that temp. In general the thermostat is slightly open and will allow some flow of oil in the oil cooler, but designs may vary. Inline oil thermostats usually start opening at the advertised thermostat temp and then fully opens within 10°C give or take. But each manufacturer is different so you should ask them how theirs is designed

After 200f thermostat changed, what oil temp difference do you see before and after? Are you able to keep ~ 200f? Thanks

With this oil cooler even with the new 200°F thermostat, I am still having issues with the car over cooling the oil. But the times I drive it hard ambient temp is around 50°F. Oil stays at/below 190°F. With the 185°F thermostat with same ambient temp oil was around 170°F running the car hard. The thermostat in the oil cooler works to dramatically reduce oil temp but it sometimes does it too much and I don’t think it closes off if temps get too low. Going to ask Mishimoto for a diagnosis. With hot ambient temps, oil is above 190°F but again it varies depending on the driving you are doing, street/highway differs in oil temp

It’s a cliche thing to say but definitely only recommend an oil cooler for the track only as you will see higher oil temps that need to be cooled down. The coolant cooler for the oil in the STI works perfectly for a street car. Unless they offer a 210-220°F thermostat than the oil cooler would be beneficial

@@4enthusiasts please keep me posted on what Mishi says, I am also searching for an oil cooler that doesn’t overcool the motor oil during daily drive.. thanks
