It’s also very common to see those WCH e-Bells ring so slow these days. I wish the railroads that use those bells would turn up the rate.

Some signal maintainers I have spoken to never even knew they were adjustable. Most of the time, whatever is factory adjusted is what is used.
@ryanstrains64468 ай бұрын
@@RailroadSignsandSignalsI am suprised. From what I have seen, you have to take off the top cover of those bells to access the controls. There the rate and volume knobs will be found. Easy to adjust with a screwdriver. I know the older WCH bells rang faster than the new ones do.

Nice video! Now this is definitely closer to a modern UP signal. Especially with the NEG E-bell. Also I have seen that extremely slow WCH ring glitch on only a few other crossings so far. First time was this UP crossing that used to have EM signals. The closer one in the video had a WCH Type 1.5 that rang just like your type 2 here.

After going back up to check things out, the bell was working properly, just the varistor was of a higher resistance than what WCH usually used. This caused the integrated circuit to ring way slower. I didn’t notice any faster maximum ring rate compared to the other ones. It didn’t like to be adjusted anywhere in between really fast and really slow easily though due to the greater ohm variability of a higher ohm varistor. The IC definitely reached its slowest ring potential as 3 seconds is a full cycle prerecorded on these bells. The varistor went lower but the bell still rang at that 3 second Approx. recorded value (including silent non-ring time) and no slower because of the original recording length of a ring. At the end of the day, the bell is now at a more reasonable ring rate than what was seen in this video.

The silver ring actually comes with the bell from the NEG factory when you buy bells from NEG. There was a video of one guy unboxing this bell and it had the ring on it.
@RailroadSignsandSignals8 ай бұрын
They come with them only if it is ordered with a side mount adapter as those are a 4 inch mounting mast size. You cannot install the ring on a 5 inch mast as the screws stick out and that would also defeat the purpose of the lock ring being on top of the mast. Their reasoning for the ring is so when it is on a side mount adapter and low to the ground, it gives the option for a railroad to lock them so people can’t tamper with them.

Revisions are the “types” of changes that a company openly acknowledges when a change happens in their product. Any time you hear the word type, it is a railfans terminology for a different visually or audible difference between the bells, not the actual revisions.
