Installing a new spoilboard and updated pin fence on my

My original spoilboard on my Axiom Elite CNC was damaged. I took the opportunity to install a new one with wider strips and an updated design. For those who saw my original video, you will like the updates. I included some of the design in ‪@vectric‬ so you can see how I came to this result.

17:25 to the clicky thingy at the end is a blank black screen...nice little bit of art nouveau flourish there...production genius. Great video on this and a lot I can take away for my Iconic 8 CNC. I don't do anything that technical or complex as your set-up but, really meaty content for sure...thorough as well. Grats on the new SawStop. I'm hoping our business survives this economy long enough to come back enough to get one some day...I figure it's just a matter of time before I'm injured in SOME way.

I'm not sure what happened after 17.25. I trimmed the video a short time ago once I was made aware from another viewer. The key is repeatability, and this will allow me to surface to a point, then simply reapply a new strip of MDF and flush trim accordingly. Thank you for watching. Oh, I do love that sawstop.

Chris, the hole size difference may be from run out in your boring bit when placed in the collet. if you are able to, you can put an indicator on the bit and rotate it by hand to make sure all the cutting edges are at the same height. this will ensure it is not your tool causing the over size holes.

Good idea. I ran the toolpath again 10ipm slower on the plunge and reduced the depth per pass by .05". That on the denser MDF seemed to fix it.

That variation in hole size is likely due to backlash on the ball screws or something of that sort. I doubt that Axiom controls have an adjustment for it. I spent 25+ years as a tool and die maker programming and running some very high end steel cutting mills and Fanuc controls have a way to compensate for the ball screw backlash down to .0001 of an inch. Not required for woodworking but it does make a difference in some cases like this. If you want tight holes on a mid range router, I would suggest cutting the hole .005-.010 undersize and use a reamer for final fit.

Since the mdf I used was a little lesser quality, I slowed down the plunge rate, and that fixed the issue. All holes are perfect now.

Did you measure for your spacing jig or did you find those dimensions somewhere from axiom? Very nice setup!

I laid the whole table out by measuring everything with calipers in mm, then converted it to inches. This took a lot of time. Once I had that, I laid out the aluminum top in Vectric and made my spoilbords sit back from each track about 1/8". Once I had that offset, the spoilboard size and spacing were confirmed. Thank you. @Andy Parsons thankfully, I had done this on the original video a couple of years ago and have used the table layout for a LOT of projects to ensure I had slots for hold downs and jigs. This has been the best use of time to obtain these measurements.
