The first time I've installed a prehung door and I have installed many non-prehung doors. I just got done framing out the tire wall with the space for the door and I used 2x4's for the frame and 1/2" osb but for some reason I have half inch gap on the inside on my walls where the lock should go, I am not sure why this is happening if I could take a photo I would. Any suggestions?

Dumbass, as they explained in the video the screws go through the hinge plate into the 2x4 in back.

This is the absolute wrong way. Never shim a hinge.

I've heard the opposite -- DEFINITELY shim the hinge, because that's a fulcrum point of force pushing out towards the gap between the jamb and the studs. Why not shim there? kzbin.info/www/bejne/onyxZqVvZq90f6M

You always shim the hinge. That's where you put your screws thru.

Yeah, I've always seen shims placed at the hinges, but I've never seen them added as an afterthought, as they seem to be in this video.
