Thank you, Shaun, for another excellent video. Watching you and your crew has encouraged me to correct a water problem I've been dealing with for the last 14 years here in North West Ohio. My house is 140 years old and built on a fieldstone foundation. After watching a couple of your videos, I realized the grade was going towards the foundation. It was hard to see because the previous owner had crushed marble along the foundation and out about 18 inches. After removing the marble, it was almost like a trench along the foundation with nowhere for the water to go except towards the house. I'm on my 6th truckload of dense soil with a large amount of clay content. I got lucky because the nursery I'm getting the soil from has allowed me to dump the removed marble free of charge. I've installed 2 window wells, and I'm nearing the end of my 2-week project. Once again, thanks for all the valuable information! THUMBS UP!

Wow. great work Tom! I see it all the time with material like that against the foundation. The water would go right through the crushed marble and right into your foundation. I'm glad I could help with your situation and thank you for sharing! Best of luck with finishing up your project! - Shawn

Gutters overflowing means more water going into gutters than leaving gutters so usually the simple solution without replacing gutters is simply adding more downspouts. This is especially true with "rounded" gutters people love for looks but rounded gutters have about 1/2 the capacity of traditional gutters, also called ogee gutters, so rounded gutters need around 2x the amount of downspouts
@mrdbooks7285
@mrdbooks7285 2 жыл бұрын
Does the Concrete Buggy have More capacity than the bucket on the the skid steer, if so, by how much?? You could almost tip from the tray of the truck into the concrete buggy if it was at right angles to it with a bit of hand unloading. Concrete buggy 3 times as much as the bucket on the skid steer, just a rough guess.

When some of the water involves an easement or off-site source, especially a road, I don’t hesitate to call local services to discuss what works best. I was getting into the roots of that sweet gum so I curved it at the end. A riprap channel will slow the water down so the sediments drops out before the water reaches the pond. I also dug the channel with the loose dirt on the downhill side to try to keep any sediment from entering from our work.

I am a drainage contractor here in MS and I have a rough time deciding on how much rip rap I need on a job. Any suggestions?

I say get a load and see how far it's going on your job and go from there. I've used the calculators to try and estimate and been over by twice as much.

Not to be too forward but do you just charge the customer per load and give them like maybe an approximate amount it may take?

The turtle peed! Not water lol! Defense mechanism/reaction.

I've never seen a pond turtle do that before. Only desert turtles (and you have to leave a water supply near them so they can replenish).

So remember, kids: Corrugated pipe is much easier to recycle than PVC, when you’ll have to rip out your crap corrugated in a few years.

I was thinking that too, but I've never seen a pond turtle do that (only desert turtles) and it looked like way too much volume. I don't know any other explanation though.

With a little work it should be just fine. Like John said it's an awesome location. They also have an unbuildable wooded lot next to them.

Just it looks like at least 5' below grade in an obvious drainage path. Could have built it higher up the hill. I saw later in the video they did look to have several corrugated lines I assume attempting to drain from the hill before it hits the house.

@@ravneiv 5 inch (125mm) below grade is nothing. I am looking at a building that is about 6000mm below grade (20 foot), you can jump on to the roof from the road next to it. Shawn has posted videos recently where the land has been reasonably flat, and there is big problems that are difficult and expensive to solve. On a slope, apart from retaining walls if you are 6m below grade it is relatively easy and cheap to divert the water..
