Just installed compact one on my 2006 Cardinal 5th, I had to cut out the hole. They should ship with template and extra gasket.

I can see that it adds a bit of convenience so sticking a key in a lock is not necessary but, it doesn't appear to add any more security to an existing deadbolt mechanism. At least not that I garnered from watching this video. One of the biggest reasons for going to an aftermarket deadbolt would seem to be that the replacement would be a beefier deadbolt mechanism for added security.
@RVProject7 жыл бұрын
Same style deadbolt - you would have to change out the strike plates and things on the door otherwise. It's mostly about convenience. If we go to the beach, we don't have to take a set of keys with us (we locked ourselves out of the RV one time). Or even better, if one of the kids has a set of keys because they want to go to location A and we want to go to location B, you don't have to worry they might lose a key.

I have been locking for a lock different from the usual. thanks for the video

Rusty Williams most and I mean most have 5 key sets if you order them off the internet you could go in any of them you still are not away from that problem you still have keys that will open them up ready and available for a small price I'm looking for something like what you have at home!!!

I have this upgrade on my list of "to do" items. I have heard some concerns about fit on the outside similar to what you experienced. I have also been considering the keyless lock by AP Products/Bauer. Seems like the shape of the Bauer would be a better fit on the exterior but I haven't seen anyone who used the Bauer. Good review!

I bought the RVLock as a Black Friday purchase back in November. I paid $144. The price, along with the key fob and matching cargo slam latch was the deciding factor. Now I just have to wait for the slam latch version of the lock to go on sale.
@RVHabit7 жыл бұрын
Yes these locks are expensive. For that price you can't pass that by. Plus I hate carrying keys when camping. Great upgrade.

I installed one on our TT and love it. The only issue we have is that we cannot fully close the hand rail as it lays on it . I am currently emailing RV lock about it for any recommendations form them.

Still happy with your new lock? Considering putting one on my Reflection as well.

It's still working.

Could you make a video where you install the RV lock?
@RVProject5 жыл бұрын
I don't typically do step-by-step videos unless there is something unique or difficult to understand about the project. Rather, I like to present projects as a catalyst for thinking of ideas, so hopefully the viewer would use to come up with their own projects (hopefully better than mine). Otherwise, my videos would all be 30minutes long.

I jot that lock works great the slam locks work great to you can use the key remote with them if you get them you will love them

It’s actually the Rv manufactures fault on original door handle

So it's been 2 years, does this look still work and are you happy with it?
@RVProject5 жыл бұрын
It is a bit problematic. However, it has not been worse since the initial installation.
@gingerhuff16163 жыл бұрын
The RVLock website clearly states that the "gasket" is a decal. It doesn't claim to be a gasket. Nice vid tho
@RVProject3 жыл бұрын
Didn't say that 3 years ago when I bought it.

@@RVProject Oh lol. Hadn't thought of that. Maybe you're one of the reasons they corrected the description.

That syringe with silicone were you bought that ? , thank you !
@RVProject5 жыл бұрын
I bought the glue syringe kit here: amzn.to/2KxMke8 It doesn't come with silicone, but I simply "loaded" the silicone into the syringe before use. The tips come in different sizes, 14AWG seems to be the largest and is the one I recommend for silicone. Smaller tips are harder to use.

I have one just like it. I'm disappointed that it only locks the dead bolt. I still need a key to lock the door latch. Keyless? ...not really.
@RVProject3 жыл бұрын
The deadbolt is still secure. Rv-lock is about to release a bluetooth adapter. I have it on pre-order, and will do a review. Maybe it will be different.

On the Ver. 4 RV locks if you want to get rid of that awful loud beep (hold down the 1 button until it beeps and it will be muted), hold down again to enable again. Unfortunately this does not work on the baggage locks...

Good to know. Will have to try it.

Are the button pairs actually separate numbers? For example is the 1 and 2 button actually just one button?
@RVProject7 жыл бұрын
They are individual buttons - not like the button-pairs that Ford uses for their keyless entry systems.
@RVProject7 жыл бұрын
Update. While the door lock has individual buttons, the baggage door lock (see video kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=P0B5xtv-gHs ) does share buttons. There are 4 buttons... 1-2 share a button, 3-4 share a button, and so on.

The "gasket" is a sticker for doors that don't take the lock out when they paint.
@RVProject3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the lock does not always replace the ones it advertises it replaces due to the shape of the case vs. the skill of the factory installer (the person cutting the hole in the door).

I have been locking for a lock different from the usual. thanks for the video. where did you buy it from?
@RVProject7 жыл бұрын
I bought it directly from RVLock on Black Friday last year for $144. They typically go on sale occasionally, but not usually for that much of a discount.

I was about to buy one then I read a review where a man took a screwdriver and easily pried it off. He did this because it failed and the key was in the rv, lol.
@RVProject5 жыл бұрын
Not sure how you would pry it off with a screwdriver. However, the doors in the typical RV are paper-thin anyway, and the OEM locks would not hold up any better I don't think.

How you going to title video "installing" then not show installation? SMH I'll look for another video
@RVProject2 жыл бұрын
The purpose of my videos is to show things unique to the installation that other videos do not cover. You are correct, other videos may show a step-by-step installation, but my videos go a bit further and show pitfalls or other difficulties you may have. I often leave out items that are self-explanatory.
@jimmywallace27822 жыл бұрын
@@RVProject Maybe leave out the misleading titles unless you intentionally did it for click bait. An "installation" video with not installation is just a talk video.
@RVProject2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmywallace2782 I don't typically do step-by-step instructions as that can read instructions should not have any problem. I always tend to focus on when the instructions are not clear, pitfalls, or difficulties you may run into when doing an installation. One issue is that there titles cannot be too long or it will not show up in the preview. So "Highlight Video of mistakes and pitfalls when Installing RVLocks in my RV", is too long. "Installing RVLocks in my RV" fits the video preview better. If you expect a step-by-step installation, you will not find too many of those here as those videos tend to be too long and boring. I rather like to get to the point and touch on the highlights. That is my philosophy when creating videos. Anyone can create a step-by-step video. But having videos that can help in difficult situations or avoid making mistakes is where I put the focus. If that does not meet your needs, I am sorry that the video did not work for you.
@jimmywallace27822 жыл бұрын
@@RVProject Didn't expect step by step... Did expect an installation in a video marked installation. Perhaps in the future you could call it what it is. All it takes is one good video to land another subscriber or one bad one to make someone avoid it. I'll look elswhere.
@RVProject2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmywallace2782 I think you are getting hung up on semantics, or just want to be argumentative. Early in the video, I did mention that this would not be a traditional step-by-step installation. Did you bail out there or did you watch the full video? In the video I: 1. showed where to obtain a template for the cutouut. 2. showed where to find the owner's manual. 3. showed the sloppy fit with the gap in the door cutout. 4, showed the optional "gasket" to fill the gap. 5. showed that some trimming was necessary. 6. showed how to program the lock. Also at the end of the video and in the description, there is a link for both follow on videos as well as the project webpage. Most of the projects at RV-Project.Com have both a video and webpage, and together they make up the project. Included on the webpage are links to other RVLock videos, including: Installing baggage doors. Fixing poorly designed baggage doors. Adding shims to the door. Replacing the switch membrane. Programming remotes. Sounds like an installation to me.
@LariatLady1504 жыл бұрын
So you skip over the instructions on how to reprogram the code?? That's the only reason I watched was to figure out how to change the code. Great. 😐
@RVProject4 жыл бұрын
In my videos, I create them as an overall idea, or a catalyst to coming up with your own project ideas. You should consider the videos summary in nature. With every video, I provide a project webpage that provides additional information. You should have seen a link in the video. If not, here is the webpage: www.rv-project.com/projects/rvlock.php The webpage provides expanded information, such as installation pitfalls, modifying of the lock to work properly, and programming of the combination. It also references additional videos for installing the RV-Lock baggage locks. So essentially to do the project, you should watch the video AND review the webpage. And if there is enough interest, I can produce a video on programming the lock.
