Outstanding video. I'm an amateur radio operator K5EMT. I'm in the process of rewiring my entire radio room. This was very helpful for making my decision to buy Dymo!

I found an igloo ICE103 and also a smaller Cozeemax by a dumpster a few days back. They both appear to be made by the same manufacturer (probably igloo). Anyway I’m testing my (larger) igloo right now in my kitchen (68 degrees) on medium. So far it is disappointing. It produced on “round one” several small little “bullets” much smaller than the ones you got. After several minutes gearing up for “round two,” it finally doled out its 2nd round of tiny ice bullets. I should not complain as this thing is probably about 10 years old, and also I found it by a dumpster. I think it may be low on refrigerant.

I just added manual switches for my tow awnings and hooked up the power just as you showed in this video. The manual switches work fine, but now when i try to active the awnings using the control pad, the fuse blows every time no matter which way i hook up the lines to the awning motor. Any ideas?

I found your father's channel just by browsing for information related to RV electrical systems. I am saddened to hear of his passing. He had a skill of explaining complex subjects in a relaxed and easy to follow manner. RIP to your father. He truly made videos out of passion and joy for the things he loved.

No need to take the cover off bro. It's automatically a 12v three tab rocker switch top is power to all the lights, middle is the power coming off the battery and bottom (gold tab) is ground or negative. The light is pos. And negative. The light up in the ceiling has a +& - stamped on the back so, colors and country really don't matter. Now, the real question hasn't been answered. You have a three wire high side dimmer you're gonna wire into two wires? And you think the center battery wire and the power to the lights wire fused together is gonna work inside that new combo units gonna work 100%? Yeah, it's gonna work for about two minutes. Then, the ceiling lights dim about 60% after about two minutes and you're only gonna be able to turn the lights on and off with the dimmer switch or, you have a dimmer that doesn't dim. The only correct way is to deturmine if the second RV wire works as ground or, power from a fuse straight off the circuit breaker or, straight off the battery? Cuz, that switch is three wires. Two wires share the middle, power in tab. And they are used to control, Two items on a single rocker switch? Remember that third tab you found under the switch cover? That provides power FROM the switch o the lights. Center takes in power from the battery and when you turn it on, it gives power to the top tab making the lights come on. Middle tab is power from the battery. Your light tester's gonna give you false readings on either the top or bottom wires cuz there's probably power in both RV wires. Do these lights have their own fuse in the circuit breaker box, are the ceiling lights grounded on one wire together running back down to the original rocker? Is the original rocker switch grounded or a cut off? If not, How are we gonna Chase it down? You'll notice most likely your two RV wires are BOTH power to the switch. Cuz, that new dimmer switch has two wires on the center wire to the battery not the top. So, the real question is, do you create a ground going all the way back to the battery (not the closest outlet) all the way back to the battery NO EXCEPTION! Best chances are, you're gonna be creating a new ground and that cut off switch shares power with something else? Most likely, a light some place under some cabinets. Check how your lights are grounded before tearing the wall apart. Are all lights grounded on a single wire to metal or, by themselves or, the battery? Do you use that top pin on the dimmer switch cuz each light is individually grounded and both wires have power? Yeah, whoever figured this 12v, puzzle, three wire, high side second switch and off/on dimming switch?? is a complete fan of RV fires. That computer board inside the switch, dimmer switch combo? Works only so long. So, figure it out. Is one of those wires a ground or a power? Is the old 12v switch ground or, cut off? They can go either way on the old switch. This high side configuration isn't gonna restore full power back to your lights either. It's configuration is more an interruption then an on/off switch. You're gonna have less power lighting when you turn the lights back on. Right?

So, do they just run 220 through the cord kind of like a power supply coming into your house? It’s not to have 220, but gives 2 lines in one so you have the same amps available on each leg? Increases amps available for running another AC, etc. thanks

Having a 50 amp plug with two legs gives you 110 volt 50 amp on each of the two hot legs, correct? Assuming you do not have any device in the RV that would require 220 volt, does it make a difference whether you have the outlet wired as 220 volt split phase or 110 volt? I guess you really are getting in both cases 100 amp at 110 volt? Could there be a difference in the sense what the load is on the Neutral? Would Neutral get 50 amps through it at 220 volt in the split phase scenario but would get 100 amps in the 110 volt (2 x 50 amps)? Might make a difference what wire size you need for Neutral?

You may have put this up 9 years ago but the information is still valid today, Sept 2024. Not knowing how the sensors looked or how they could be replaced turns out to be not rocket science :) My sensors were not clogged or caught up with debris, just mildly corroded - so I popped down to my local RV store and picked up the basic replacements they had at 3 bucks a pop. I just have a small 16' trailer (that was born in 2018) and never poop in the tank unless really really really necessary so no real need for the Horst sensors. So tanks a lot for the excellent video.

Great, clear articulation of switch types. Thank you for the content ! How would THREE Carling-type switches control ONE Load (light) ? i.e. turning on a Light from THREE locations. Would this be relatively easy to articulate without the need of a new vid ?
