This looks like a great possibility to supplement my current gas furnace and swamp cooler HVAC system. I’m wondering about sizing appropriately. I live in southeast Utah with plenty of sunshine, dry cold bright winters and hot dry summers. My homes upstairs is about 1150 square feet with 8 foot ceilings, I have a small 1/3 basement that’s about 450 squate feet also with 8’ ceilings, but about 100square feet of that is an unventilated storage room/pantry. The basement has no door separating it from the upstairs living room where I think the mini split system will go best mounted through the homes north facing wall. Going off this square footage what BTU size of the EG4 mini split do you think would best supplement heating and cooling my homes space? Thank you for showing an HVAC professionals take on DIY systems. -Jon

You could probably go with either depending on your needs. 24k should be adequate to cool the whole home, I requires more panels. The 12k does a pretty good job of taking the edge off and the main Ac would run a lot less, it requires less panels and runs on very little power even after the sun goes down.

I'm using 6 Canadian solar 225w panels. I will be upgrading to 4 400w panels before winter.

I'm seeing your Inside Head Unit lines are already straight back. Mine arrived and are inside the unit. Did you have to bend them out straight? I have 3 units and need to bend one head units line set 180* from where it came shipped (tucked in and under the back of the head unit). How did you bend the lines? Also, what is the OD of the copper tubing? will a 1/4" to 3/8" bender work?

Mine arrived the same way. Just bend them gently by hand and you will be fine. The lines are 1/4" and 3/8", a bender will work but you'd have to peel the insulation back.

Is there any type of portable heater which is the cheapest to operate and would keep our tv time in the living room heated well? Just until we get our new mini split system purchased and installed?

There's electric space heaters if you have enough power, a propane buddy heater which has its drawbacks, or you could try a diesel heater. Diesel would probably be the most economical.

Thanks for subscribing Jeff! The Nitrogen is used before the vacuum as a pressure test, no change in pressure generally means there are no leaks. I also used Nitrogen while brazing to prevent oxidization inside the pipe, but if you're not extending the lines you don't need to worry about that.

@@JWTX I don't have any discount codes at this time. You'd probably have to source it from an Hvac wholesaler and maybe somewhere like TSC. The Nitrogen itself isn't expensive but the deposit on the bottle is usually a few hundred dollars, you get it back on return.

No, you can use Nylog if you want but if you make a good flare you don't need it

Depends on your needs, I wanted this one to cool the main living area of my house so it's in the most open space possible but you may want it in a bedroom. Somewhere with easy access to electrical is ideal if you plan to connect it to grid power as well.

i to live in canada ,, brampton ontario .. i am thinking of the EG4 product line .. the 6500 or the new 8k split phase inverters . how do you find the shipping charges and border fees . any other insights you might have like repair work ( warranty ). thank you

The shipping charges to Canada were high ($450 USD) so I had it shipped to a family member in NY for $100, then picked it up and crossed the border with it expecting to pay the duty, but the border guy was in a good mood and let it go for free. I have not had to make any claims fortunately but will update if the situation arises.
