Installing a Steering / Tilt Tube onto a 15 HP Evinrude Outboard

If only the stern bracket bushings and the tilt bolt on my 1986 15 hp Johnson would come out as easily as yours did. If I am successful at removing them without destroying the brackets I'll make sure to lubricate them really well. Thanks! Great instructional video.

Great Videos. I would like to add remote steering to my 1999 8hp Johnson J8REEM. Is this possible? I don't see a tilt tube part for it. It also doesn't have anywhere to mount the steering mechanism like the videos you posted. I guess there is another bracket required?

I have a 1980 35 Johnson and it does not have a tilt tube. I need to put one on it and I have a spare parts motor that has one. The the rod that runs through the non-tilt tube motor is very rusted and the nut is corroded. Can I cut that bolt? Is it possible to send you some pictures of it to get your opinion?

On my 87 9.9, I am trying to run my stick steering cable through the port side of the tilt tube and swing the drag link to the starboard side. However, the link is clearly made to swing port side (it is bent so as to allow clearance around tilt tube) and hook up there. Is it possible to fabricate or even source another link from another motor?

BRP made a link for Port, and one for Starboard entry for this- Part numbers are: 0433845 DRAG LINK & BRKT. ASSY. Starboard Entry Cable 0434080 DRAG LINK & BRKT. ASSY. Port Entry Cable You may have better luck finding the kits- 0174212 STEERING KIT. Starboard Entry Cable 0434079 STEERING KIT. Not Shown Port Entry Cable And, if none of those work, search ebay for "Evinrude 9.9 Steering" and start scrolling. Problem is the part number isn't stamped on them, so people trying to sell one usually don't know the correct part number; and list it however then can.

Brandon, i am trying to get the old tilt tube out of my evinrude 88hp engine. The nut on the cable side is free, but the opposite side will not budge. When I try to turn it, the whole tube turns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Heat, impact wrench or anything I can try. Thanks.

you only need to get one nut off; once its out, do what you can to side it.

@@BrandonsGarage Thanks. I am trying to get the stuck side off so I can pump some oil through the steering cable. The cable runs through a hole in the transom and there is no room to remove it. The tube seems good now that I cleaned and greased it.

Well, depends. Does your engine have a Tilt Tube? If not, you have have some trouble with steering. Otherwise, for shift and throttle, you'll need 'Remote Control Adapter Kit' 20/25/30 HP 2 Stroke 1990-2005 P/N 0433720

Everything is coming out of alignment? Did you clean the outside of the tube first?

Brandon's Garage yes i did. mine is just a weird one it had a tube that you put the other tube through and connect it with the bolt. I managed to get mine all together so it does what it's supposed to do
