Installing a Tachometer in a 73-79 Ford Truck

I recently picked up a 1977 F150 for pretty cheap. It had a tachometer on the dash but I noticed that it wasn't working. I decided to dig in to see what was up, since it looked like it was wired up already. I ran into a few surprises but nothing that couldn't be undone. I've seen a few people ask from time to time how to hook a tach up, so this procedure should be the same for just about any Ford truck made from 1973 to 1979.

Shorter distance means shorter ohms resistance

do you need to connect the white wire in order for it to work. I have an old tach which I will replace with a new one. Just want to hook this old one to help me break in the cam.

I had to go back and look since I made this three years ago and couldn't remember. If you're referring to the wiring under the dash, that's just for the light on the tach. All the necessary wires to make the tach work should be under the hood. Hope that answers your question, let me know. 👍🏻

Did you see the hack-job on this truck? Funny story, I sold this truck to a local fella in the fall of 2020. He's since sold it and the guy he bought it from had it up for sale a few weeks ago (April 2021). The bed was gone and it had different doors on it. So much for keeping the truck together, but as they say, when you sell it, they can do whatever they want to with it.

i would say half of the video is useless talking and the other half is the actual meat. do yourself and your viewers a favor.... come un with a plan for shooting, learn to edit, cut out the rambling. other than that, pretty useful video.
