This is the BEST video explaining and showing the rationale behind the mysterious "two clunk" torque converter to tranny install. Thanks a million!!!!!!!!

Great video. Haven't done an auto trans in a while. I needed a refresher and this was it.

Man, I wish I had watched this video before I reinstalled my transmission--excellent video demonstrating the clunks and what might happen if not done properly.
@MonsterTransmission11 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, Yes you can. After you remove the driveshaft and slip yoke, the transmission mounts, unbolt the trans from the motor, drop the transmission, then put in the new torque converter and re-assemble.

Man.. Your tutorial and explanation explains soooo much Curt. ..Thanks for an amazing video. Please tell me if this may be my problem in my 1986 GMC Conversion Van! I have reverse and park but no drive.
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
That would most likely be an internal transmission issue and not the converter.

Don’t just use any grease! Use a transmission “grease”, Vaseline, petroleum jelly, or petrolatum on seals. These will melt in heat and will allow your seals to do their job. Regular grease will stay firm and not solidify in heat.

I have a 2004 gmc yukon xl 1500 my drive and reverse went out could it be possible the t-conver went out? I dropped the oil pan and there's a lot of sliver flakes mixed in the oil or could it be the oil pump I'm trying not to do a complete tear down of the transmission...
@mattmgarza5 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't my axle input gears or whatever (the place with the seals where you plug in the axles) shouldn't those gears inside spin if the transmission torque converter is seated properly? I was thinking they would spin as I move the torque converter, but maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for the video!

Always been careful with hearing that second clunk and aligning properly. When I did my Mercedes 500SL the new trans shifted flawlessly.

Thanks for not leaving out the "add trans fluid" step. The first few vids I watched failed to mention or do that step.

yes i got a wagon that has a 700r4 trans the vehicle sat for 3 years . the person i got it from doesnt remember how much fluid was in it they dont even know if the dip stick is the right length. its after market. my question is how do i find out the right length and if the kick down cable isnt tight would fluid spill out of the trans where the cable hooks up to
@MonsterTransmission9 жыл бұрын
Henry Evans Yes it can leak from the cable if it is loose. They hold 11-12 qts total. So at this point you can either purchase an original stick and tube or you could fill it until it works properly and then mark the existing stick. Hope that helps. If you have any further questions give us a call at 800-708-00087. Thanks and have a great day!

Great Video ! I have a Question for ya Could a Bad tourque Converter be the cause of wheel vibration at 50 to 60 mph ? in My p.t. cruiser 2006
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't be the converter. Typically something more to do with the wheels, assemblies or suspension.
@TheJaybird538 жыл бұрын
I have taken it in to 2 shops and they still have not resolved the issue. thank you ! I will present that to them . One said it was standard for pt cruisers Ha in His Mind maybe.

I replaced rear main seal and reinstalled the transmission and now it will not move in any gear. what do you think happen
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
What transmission do you have? It sounds like the torque converter was not in all the way, that will brake the front pump gears.

What happens if oil is not put on the turbine before mounting (not being new) or is lowered for a change of rack. The mechanic who mounted it did not do it, when it started there was a strange sound, like of grazing screws, then walked for a while and then stopped picking up speeds. At the end of the story, which could have been damaged, I think the mechanic did not correctly position the turbine with the three steps. :( It went back down the box it went back up and continues without grabbing the speeds. What can be the damage? Pump or Turbine?

i m just removing my engine/trans....doing engine swap..are there any serious do s and dont 's with the torque converter, there is nothing wrong with it just want to be careful with it ,like if it gets laid on its side things like that thanks in advance
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
When removing the converter just take it slow and don't recklessly remove it. When storing the converter just keep it flat and the hole covered so nothing gets inside. Being on it's side won't hurt it.

so if the pump gears breaks what happens ? does the car stop driving and the gears won't work suck as drive or reverse
@cristiandbacksfan94358 жыл бұрын
stuck I meant xF
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
+Cristian Ramirez If the pump gears break then there wouldn't be any pump pressure. So you are correct there wouldn't be any drive or reverse. Thanks for checking in with us! www.MonsterTransmission.com | 800-708-0087

+Monster Transmission no wonder my car don't drive no more and makes a weird noise like if something is scrapping . and I don't feel the gears lock in . so I'm guessing my pump gears broke and I heard it pop thought I blew my transmission .

I would triple check all thickness's and measurements. Was the converter the only part being replaced? Did you listen for the proper amount of clunks?

From my exp it will not fit on engine if Converter not seated. Converter will stick out past bell housing face.
@MonsterTransmission6 жыл бұрын
In some transmission types that is true. With those people will normally break the case or pump gear while installing because they didn't realize the converter was not in all the way.

hey i got a huges 2500 stall converter for my aluminum power glide and i can't get it to go in i played with it forever it seems like something inside is stoping it from going on
@MonsterTransmission10 жыл бұрын
You will need to make sure the spline on the input shaft and converter match up. The shaft could have been upgraded to a turbo 350-400 spline shaft which will not accept a stock powerglide converter.

hey I put 2 quarts is that ok or is it to much
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
If 2 quarts will fit in the converter that is okay. Just make sure after running that the levels are proper on the dip stick. Thanks

curt do i have to rebuild my transmission if my converter is making a noise or should i just replace da converter itself
@MonsterTransmission8 жыл бұрын
Drop the transmission pan, see if there is metal in the pan and inspect the fluid. This will help decifer the condition of the transmission.
