Installing a transmission on an Early Bronco

My C4 transmission in my 1975 Ford Bronco has been leaking all over my garage floor. So, pulled it out, sent it off to be rebuilt, and now I'm putting it back in my Bronco.
A couple important things to do while the transmission is out:
•Flush the transmission cooler lines with this stuff: amzn.to/3wV1Xm3
•Replace the Crossmember bushings with new bushings: tomsoffroad.co...
Dana 20 to Transmission gasket: tomsoffroad.co...
Get a transmission jack: amzn.to/3gbqxck
Re installing the transmission was an easy process, but it just took time to get it lined up perfectly. I used an engine hoist to lift the transmission through the cab floor, then used my floor jack to lift the front of the transmission. We then used a ratchet strap around the axle to suck the transmission into the engine.

Pretty ingenious way of lifting that D 20 because we all know there's no good way on it from below! 👌👌😉😎

I had made a "jig" out of a 2 x12 and 2 x 4 blocks for my floor jack..strapped the trans /Tc to it... ..found the sweet spot for balance...and lifted the trans and transfer case up together in my 67..worked great..and no extra hands needed :)

I am just getting started on getting my 76 going. My parents bought it brand new, I drove it in high school. It has been parked inside my sign shop and not driven since 2002. Transmission is on the list of things it needs.. Thanx!

I have a 1973 302/ automatic/power steering ranger package Mallard green with white top orange pin strip. I bought it new off of showroom floor in 1973, one owner and only about 5 -6 people have driven it. Driven regularly until the battery went dead about 12 yrs ago, it has been in the dry ever since then. You are giving me the fever to get it going again.

Haha! Get it going or sell it to me 👍🏼 Let me know if I can help you get it going. Make sure to drain the gas and clean the tank before just adding new gas. Old gas could clog it up before it even gets fired.

Boy I’m glad I found your Channel. The using of the engine hoist/ cherry picker to lift the trans I’m place is pure genius! I will be doing that here soon on my 66 and I was dreading getting it up in place but now I know what to do thanks to you. ✊🏼Oh and my trans is manual 3 so it should be a lot easier 🤞🏼

Nice job! So how’s it shifting? No leaks? I talked to Todd at the trans shop in Franklin where you went. He sounds very knowledgeable. Reasonable price too.

It’s still shifting high, but I’m wondering if that’s because it just needs to break in some more. No leaks 🙌🏼

I was was thinking of getting a automatic and considered a C4. Was worried about having larger tires would affect the rpm's on the freeway being too high on the freeway without an overdrive. Did you have to change out your gear ratio to improve it? If so, what gear ratio did you go with or is it just not an issue running 3.56 gears? Thanks!
@NashvilleEarlyBronco
@NashvilleEarlyBronco 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t changed my gear ratio yet. I still have 3.50 gears so going 65 on the freeway I’m at about 2,400 rpm. I would like to switch to 4.56 gears and get a transmission with overdrive one day.

What’s the plan for the other bronco, are you planning to do a complete restoration of the second one and keep driving the green one until the second one is finished? Mine is not on the road yet, keep going deeper but starting to get scared I’ll never get it back together if I don’t stop taking things apart and start putting it all back together soon.
