Installing a Yoyodyne Slipper Clutch in my Triumph Daytona 675R Race Bike!

Good job Chad, I am sure that you will be very happy with the slipper clutch, as they greatly reduce the chance of a dreaded rear wheel lockup which is very easy to do in the heat of battle. Looks like another podium coming up for you soon.

Slipper clutch - one less thing to think about into corners👍🏻 very good mod and investment - you will never want to ride without one again on track or the street. I had a suter slipper clutch in my 675r and it was magic.😃

Glad to hear you liked yours! I was hesitant to pull the trigger, as this cost about 1/5th of what I bought my Daytona for 😅 But, I'm really looking forward to trying it out next month at my next races! I figure it's a tough comparison to make since this is a "racing" slipper clutch, but how did yours in the Daytona compare to the Tuono's? Hardly necessary with the blipper, but I have tried dropping the clutch after clicking down a few gears with it open and it seems to handle it fairly well with just a little resistance.

Great video thanks! Question, any reason why you have the new one soak overnight in oil before install? I'm thinking of replacing the oem on my R6 track bike to a Suter

Thanks Eric! I soaked the plates in oil based on recommendations from other videos and instructions. I did it overnight as an overkill measure, but at least a few hours is typically recommended. I believe it makes it less likely that the clutch plates will stick together and that it will extend the life of the clutch, as the plates don’t get as much oil as other engine components. Best to put them in pre-oiled for that reason I think. It certainly can’t hurt. 🙂

Hey Chad, nice video on reinstalling the clutch assembly. My cbf600 clutch outer basket is very similar to yours. I have to do the alignment on the driven gear and sub gear. The manual just says to use a 5mm pin, or suitable tool. How did you get to install it? Did you turn it clockwise? Waited for the outer basket to click on the oil pump gear? Sorry for the late reply and hope you were able to figure this out! I used one of the locating dowels for the clutch cover to align the basket, then with some force and I think a large screwdriver slotted it into place. Can't remember for sure as it was so long ago, but I do remember it being quite a pain!

I'm looking at getting a slipper for my fz07 track bike. What has the maintenance been like for the yoyodyne? Are there are adjustments that can be made as well?

I just put it in, set the slack in my clutch cable, and have only adjusted that once as the plates have worn. No maintenance other than that. There may be some other adjustments, but I haven't played around with it in that way so can't say for sure.

Hey did you keep the judder springs behind the first plate or did you move it behind the third plate? Been reading some reviews on the forms and a few guys say to move the judder to the third plate. If you left the judder behind the first plate how’s the performance been?

I removed the jutter spring altogether. A friend of mine had installed one of these in his D675 a few years before me and had issues opening the clutch. After he removed the gutter spring, no issues aside from the clutch being a little bit grabbier when being engaged.

I’ve got a yoyodyne in my 07 Daytona trackbike and it’s awesome. Way better than any of the slippers that come from the factory with the later gen bikes. Have you done the longevity fixes on yours yet? Mainly the stock heat exchanger?

Glad to hear you’ve had a great experience with it! I’m really excited to finally try it out next month 😁 I have not yet done the heat exchanger, but it is on my list of things to do. Did yours fail, or did you upgrade proactively?

@@hiimchad mine was done proactively, I recommend checking out the UKRS one. It’s a big issue with these bikes if you track them and when it goes it grenades your engine.

@@fosksso5062 might have to move it up my priorities list then! I had a 2006 Daytona 675 up until 2019 that I put about 1000 track miles on, and I have another friend that has a 2009 with a few thousand track miles on it that haven’t had issues. Still, would be nice to not have to worry. Did you bypass the coolant line when installing yours?

Got a question.... I'm working on a bike ('06 Daytona 675) that was left behind when the owner passed away last month. The bike was in a few pieces and I'm trying to make sense of it all. Firstly, the clutch. He had at one time a yoyodyne slipper installed. But now, the stock clutch is back in the bike. However, the cable actuator assembly that pushes/pulls the rod in/out of the clutch is missing. So there's a hole in the case where it used to be, and the cable is just out there in thin air. Any chance you can give me insight into the parts that are missing? A microfiche type website didn't do me any good, and those parts are all "not available". I'm hoping they're just 'lost' on his work bench or in a drawer hidden in the garage somewhere. It was a mess, and the bike had been sitting for 10yrs or so. ... next, I've got to figure out some of the wiring as I have connectors 'not connected' up on each inside of the fairing and one under the seat. Maybe I can lean on someone for pictures... not sure who. The one under the seat looks like it could be for an accessory alarm or an OBD port? Frustrated, but trying to do right by the old owner as he'd not be happy if I don't get it right. ;)

Hey Johnny! Sorry to hear about the previous owner, but hope you can turn it into a fun project. I think T1170181 is the clutch part you’re looking for, but I would double-check with a dealer’s parts department to verify. Also, I use bikebandit.com for parts diagrams and then just take the p/n to my dealer and get what I need from them. Usually never takes more than two weeks. That connector under the seat is indeed and OBD2 port. Makes it nice and easy to figure out what’s going on if the bike ever throw the CEL. Triumph675.net is another great resource for photos and how-tos.

@@hiimchad Chad... thanks a BUNCH for replying. I did find that part as being correct, and ordered the spring and other necessities (cover gasket, etc). And ya... it was sad, but only diagnosed 40 days prior. He also left behind a Bimota YP11 that I'm getting ready to sell along with this Triumph. Trying to do him well in his honor, as he had kept the bikes up tip top before he broke his neck in a surfing accident that plagued him and kept him off the bikes for the last 10-14yrs .

Hi!
