Aeromotive provides that nice billet aluminum ring for 2 purposes: 1) as a template for the holes as you stated, but also 2) as an installation tool/guide for the foam box, which is why it has that nice machined taper, to protect the rubber and foam (and your hands!) from damage during installation.

Also what about the metal shavings in the tank you didn't clean out? Or debur the opening?
@Reddirtrodz7 жыл бұрын
We vacuumed the tank and deburred the opening with a deburring tool.

A plastic ring would do for a single use item, but when it's $600, who's counting.

We cleaned the tank quite thoroughly, we showed a little bit of the vacuuming, but we spent a considerable amount of time making sure it was clean. Just didnt have time in the video to show it all.

Aeromotive needs to develop a Aeromotive Flex Stealth Fuel Tank alongside of the Aeromotive 340 Phantom Stealth Fuel Tanks. It would make it real simple for those who would like the choice to run E85 or Gasoline. I need one for my 66 Chevy Impala. So go on ahead and take a SKU 18318 65-66 Chevy Impala Fuel tank and replace the Aeromotive 340 Phantom Fuel Pump with the Aeromotive Flex Fuel Pump and I will Gladly purchase one! Thanks in Advance!!

You could always just buy a OE tank from Tanks Inc and then a Phantom flex. Install the flex in the tank and put it on your car. Boom. Done.

The fuel pump made by ACDelco is different when designed for use with E85 fuels. The commutator plates, brushes and stainless steel piping is also used where plastic is used. I would check with Aeromotive about this kit and E85 as I thought they were! If not, remember the E85 is very corrosive using plastic tank(s), hose and stainless steel at the fuel rail. Good call as I didn't look to see when the video was released. Even the foam used in the bucket may not be compatible. This is why E85 is transport by rail or truck, not the vast miles of underground pipes. ASE Master since 78

You never showed the trunk floor. Did you have to cut it or beat it up to fit this system in without it being mashed to the floor??
@Reddirtrodz5 жыл бұрын
In most cases, no you do not. It depends on the vehicle, but most cars allow the system to fit without any issues. In some cases, you need to space the tank down a little bit. This is usually done with closed cell foam or spacers blocks.

Nice video. that looks like a very nice system. how deep can the tank be? is there a maximum depth?
@Reddirtrodz9 жыл бұрын
Casey Hagist The stated depth is 6-10 inches, but you can alter that and go deeper if needed. You can't get much shallower though.
@direct9987 жыл бұрын
always thought you couldn't cut a used tank because of risk of an explosion .
@Reddirtrodz7 жыл бұрын
No, you just have to make sure it is clean. The trick is to pour it out, wash it would hot water several times, and blow it out dry. If you are welding, you want to fill it with an inert gas like C02 or the old school trick of exhaust fumes from your vehicle. We have done that trick many times, it works well.

did you guys not clean tank afterwords for possible metal shavings from drilling holes? good video otherwise I'm also kind of curious if someone ever installed 2 of these kits in a tank I'm sure it'll only work in PWM mode with dual pumps though

No they did not 😞

What did you guys do for the vent portion of it ?
@Reddirtrodz8 жыл бұрын
The tank vents were capped off and the new vent was sealed with a roll-over valve.
@deankay44342 ай бұрын
@@Reddirtrodz Well, I was honestly concerned when I saw the fitting get capped. Glad you have a roll over valve but the tank needs to breathe. Fuel caps allow air to enter depending on brand & year, but filling displaces hydrocarbon rich air from the tank until liquid fuel touches the roll over valve. Normally these fumes go into your activated carbon canister to be saved until purge. I don't know how the vehicle is used, but I installed a basic LS Tahoe motor in my 67 C10 and had it programmed to allow purge but no EVAP diagnostics. After all, I don't want the aspirator at the gas pump to kick off and I want to burn the fuel vapors I generate at a return heats fuel, exhaust, pavement, ambient temperatures go high then low. Nobody wants their tank to collapse when cooled off. This is the strategies used on new ultra-low hydrocarbon leakage detection. Having the other capped fitting open to a hose going above the filler cap, perhaps in a loop, will reduce or eliminate the pump kicking off during refueling, attached to the little fitting behind the necks filler. Tech tip; running the hole saw backwards a little will help with future installations. Good clear info provided in this video. I hope no ones gets bad fumes in a garage as no explanation was given about venting or canister storage. Regards. ASE Master tech since 78.

How long does the foam last before it deteriorates??
@Reddirtrodz2 жыл бұрын
It is fuel stable, it doesn't deteriorate.

What's you opinion of the pump on high hp applications
@Reddirtrodz10 жыл бұрын
The Road Runner we installed this pump in made over 700 horsepower, so it is very capable. They have a larger pump for 750+ hp engines. I have another kit I am using in another system.

How deep of a tank will this work with?
@Reddirtrodz6 жыл бұрын
I believe 6 is the minimum, up to like 11
@ScottDLR6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that's what I found as well. Unfortunately I need about 15".
@Reddirtrodz6 жыл бұрын
You should be able to extend it. Shorter than 6 is a problem, longer that 11 should be feasible. I'd give them a call, it would not be hard to lengthen the mount and wire.
