Installing Aftermarket Taillights on Tesla Model 3

The seller sent me a cable that will fix the brake issue. I will be making a video when I get it. Everything is plug and play.
I am not sure if all taillight are like that. It is possible only the ones I got. Please double check with the seller before you buy anything. I got in touch with the seller to see if there is a solution for the turn signals turning on when braking

Sadly there is no fix for the reverse it’s an Euro spec. They are working on a USA spec. For the the turn signals he said that Tesla changed the wires on the 2021 model 3 and he said they are trying to find a solution for it. And it he said he doesn’t know how long it will take them to find a solution for it.

Got mine and installed them. The cables should be routed to the right inside the inside the trunk cable flexible tube. I do 💯 agree with you about the indicators turning on (braking in yellow) when braking and also the one sided reverse light! If you are able to program them please shed some light 🙏🏼 Thanks for this video. Much appreciated.

In europe we have a rear fog light, which is just a very bright red light. The easiest way to add it is to have it on one side and the reverse light on the other side, thats why you only have one reverse light.

Maybe they were made for the European market where we have filling Fog light on one side and reverse on the other?And the fact that the indicator comes on when braking, is due to US setup where brake light and turn signal is same bulb/light (both red) where Europe and the rest of the world has yellow rear turn signals. Just a thought

Yeah, the car’s wiring includes an additional wire which is brake lights only. This wire is not used by original US spec lights, but euro lights AND these ones do use it, and that’s the one lighting up the red brake lights. The original brake/turn wire goes to the amber part. Outside North America, this wire is turn signal only. This would have to be corrected by software, which I doubt Tesla is going to help you with

@@H0704 but you can cut the wire that supplies both brake and turn signal, and run your own wire to the side marker signals. . I have a thread explaining it below this. You will however need to add a hyper flash resistor to that cut wire though

Teslas in Europe need to have rear fog lights. That’s why you only have one reverse light. The other side lights up brighter and functions as a fog light in the European market if equipped.

Of course. It’s all about honesty :) The seller said he will be working with the supplier for a fix for the the turn signals indicators. But for the reverse it’s an EU spec so only the right is the reverse. Which is ok with me. I don’t drive in reverse the whole time lol. So he will see if he can get a cable to be installed so the the turn signals don’t turn on when braking.

As per many comments below, seems like you got a Chinese spec version and for a 2020 or prio, 4pin lights versions. Hanshow sells these as do others, Chinese made knock offs so they are all basically the same. Hanshow sells a Chinese Version, EU & USA/Canada spec version. The difference is on the EU/USA/Canada spec, no foglight on drivers side and both have white rear backup lights. Not sure about the turn signal activating when you hit the brakes, I've not seen any video from Hanshow with that shot...which makes me wonder if they have that too. If anyone knows of the correct setup for North America, would love you to post the link as I too, want to get a set of these but don't want to compromise like this person has. I want it correct or not at all. Thanks for this video, really helps for the installation but yes, you should route the right side wires thru the flexible tubing between the trunk lid and the trunk. Cleaner install.

The seller sent me a cable it was suppose to be plug and play to fix the emergency lights issue but the cable didn’t fit. So I got in touch with him and he said he will be sending me new taillights and they will be the US Spec. I will update the link of the item in the description when I get the new ones. Same issues with the new Taillights I got from him. I will be getting new style I will make a video soon

The tail lights were made for the European market. The single red high vis w/ single white are common in Europe. The reason why the turn signals are coming on with the brakes is because North American models share( wire 3) brake and turn signal. (Wire 4) is just brakes. Though the stock N.A. light fixtures are not pinned for this, but the wire harness still sends(wire 4 signal). Europe models use just (wire3) for signals and ( wire4) for brakes, their light fixtures support this and would work no problem with these lights.... What you can do, and what I did. Is cut wire 3 on both light harnesses before the light fixtures and run your own wires spliced into your side repeater signals. I know its a pain but it will work. I promise you. Harness:Wire1- ground, wire2- tail lights, wire3 -turn signal&brake , empty pin, wire4-brake You will however have to add a hyper flash resistor to wire3 and frame ground, otherwise the car will think there is a problem and hyper flash. In NY state it is not illegal to have amber lights "IN Addition" to your brake lights...but I think there is too much going on there though

@@cwario Y is different if it has the amber turn signals. I believe on the Y, they doubled up the brake and tail light together, ..I am not sure, I would need to look at the car. ..I am sorry. Maybe the OP, can help you

I'm going out on a hunch here, but I think the indicator turning on when braking has something to do with your car being american. American model 3s use the same lights as indicators and brake lights, while 3s in other markets (which have laws requiring amber turn signals at the back) use different lights. I wouldn't be surprised if there were wiring/programing differences between cars which lead to your issue.

I dont have any problem with the turning lights if i stop on brake. Its problem maybe because you have 2021 model. Second thing is that its for EU and asia Markets, where on right must be one reverse light and on left must be one fog light.. Overal very nice product and tail lights are finally no fogging ;-) which is so good! Its better glued then OEM tesla.

i just did the install on my 2019 canadian car and im getting this exact issue. also with most of the advertised cars, the rear fog can be activated in park. in this videos car and mine, the fogs only come on in gear!

I have them and they are 100% symetrical... its problem of tesla quality and not the light. I spend ca 2 hours to arrange them on right place. Tesla quality is shit ;-/

I got so pissed. I was so happy. I want to see what the seller will say. For the reverse I really don’t care. But what sucks is when I hit the brake the turn signals turn on. That pissed me a lot. I love the taillights they look amazing at nignt. I made my brother drive my car and I drove behind my Tesla and they are sick.

Yes they are so much nicer... this problem is, that you have 2021 model isnt it ? Becouse these lights are for 2020 model i think as max. 14:56 thats normal. european teslas only have 1 reverse light as the other (usa) reverse light has been replaced by a fog light! So in your car you may not have fog lights as americans usually cant be trusted with them - but if you put those into a european speced model then im sure on the left side will be the fog light. that is also why your turn signals are amber and not red like most cars have in the usa. i think your tesla sends the wrong signal to the taillights, hence the turn signals comes on with the brakelights. As they are all red in usa cars they both come on - but they shouldnt if you have amber turn signals.

When I got it it didn’t fit sadly :( 1000$ that’s too much man. My seller told me he will send me another set and it will be the US spec and I will return these

I like the lights. The install - Not so much. The should be enough room in the cable assembly on the right side to feed both cables through the inside of the rubber grommet for a "clean install". These look exactly like the EU model tail lights with only one reverse light. Could it be car programming needed for these lights?

Yes for the right side you are right. I should fed the wire inside the rubber. For the left I don’t think it’s possible. It is the EU spec and no there is no way you can program it becuase it white on the right and red on the left

Those wouldn’t pass inspection unfortunately. Lights have to be symmetrical for all turning, breaking and reversing. Nice led pattern though. Good luck!

We don’t have inspection in CT. Even if anyone has inspection in their state they can always replace them back to stock :) inspection is usually every 2-3 years. And a 5 min job won’t hurt 😉

Im in need of advice, i recently just installed my tail lights. I started on the driver side first and made sure everything connects and was working. I then proceeded to work on the passenger side and did the exact same thing but only to find out now that only the passenger side tail light works. I tried reconnecting the oem on the driver side to check maybe it was the after market tail lights fault but that didnt seem to work either for some reason. Did i blow a fuse maybe? Eould anyone have an idea why my left side connection doesnt work anymore? Thanks in advance

Each one has power cable then there is a separate cable that will connect both of them together. Make sure that cable is connected good

Could you have run the wire from the other side? If the wires are long enough you should be able to route it thru existing rubber connection on the right.

Correct, wire should be ran through the trunks passenger side light, up the wire harness to the trunk lid. Just like auto trunk install from Hansshow.

are they DOT approved for US use? If not and you get into an accident they can blame your non certified lights. As a former Jeep owner many folks got caught in the non DOT approved lights from China snafu.

Brake taillights should be red by law. Something is wrong the yellow signal shouldn't turn on when you brake

All of them are plug an play. But maybe the ones from handshaw have an extra cable. Anyways my seller is gonna be sending a cable that will fix the issue. Reverse can’t be fixed since those taillights are euro spec. But the brake will be fixed. Wait don’t get the taillights yet. If I fix mine you can get the same ones as mines if you like and save your self free hundred dollars. I will be making an update video soon

Nothing. There is no fix. They are telling me it’s the car. Tesla made the cables different after the facelift.
