Hi Mike, thank you so much for your excellent videos. So meticulous and thorough. We have a 2008 RR Sport that we added an Alpine screen/head unit to. Had it professionally done at Mobile West car audio in Portland, OR. The install cost us $750. The 4x4 screen still works, but the old gps navigation does not (who cares now that there's CarPlay). Obviously Mobile West knows how to keep the 4x4 screen working. May be worth a call. Thanks again for your great content. Because of your videos, I plan to take over some of the maintenance for our Rover.

The previous owner of our 2005 LR3 said it cost him over $1000 to have a Pioneer head unit and steering wheel controls installed. The upper screen did not work, but that was also because he did the coil over shocks conversion. I bought a wireless back up camera with a 7" screen, which fits almost perfectly in the frame around the upper monitor. It's secured with some industrial strength velcro. One thing I noticed is that your stereo surround is one piece. Mine is two pieces, split in the middle of the shelf in front of the upper monitor.

Thank you so much for this video!!!! I followed the wiring using the Scosche kit with my Sony xav-ax3250 deck I purchased and it worked like a charm. Had no issues at all with sound and my steering wheel controls worked to the radio. Luckily with the Sony deck I was able to wire my ground to the frame instead of having to use a bypass. I used a eRapta ERT01 HD backup camera with this and was also able to connect directly to the reverse In (purple/white) wire so, that the backup camera and its built in LED lights only turned on when put in reverse and displayed on the deck.

Mike!!!!!!! You are the boss! This worked perfectly for me. I have a 2005 LR3 and used this video with your instructions to a tee. The only thing I couldn't install was the parking brake bypass, which I couldn't seem to find on e-bay. However as you mentioned a simple switch did the trick. I could not have made any of this work without your effort and precision this video. Even pro installers would have a hard time figuring this out and at a great cost. You rule, man! Reminder for anyone not very savvy like me doing this that the Alpine comes with a plastic protective piece for the fiber optic connection that might be misleading and confusing that the connector won't fit your car. That simply needs to be pulled out with needle nose pliers. Mine had an a two piece sort of embeded plastic protective thing, and they both pull out easily. Plugs right in after that. Also, remember to connect all three of those black ground wires together. And if you opt for the switch between the [Yellow/Black Striped] wire and that [Green] wire for the parking brake sensor like Mike has detailed - remember that it will still not allow you to go into settings with the engine running. First key click/turn to power the unit on then bump the switch it off and on in "Settings" mode and you'll see it will wake up for you to modify everything. Fantastic again, Mike. THANK YOU! Subscribed and always going to you first for the real stuff.

Great job! It looks really nice. My 2006 is an SE but it was nicely optioned including the rear locking differential. But it did not include the nav screen which also displays the 4x4 info where I have a cubby storage instead. I installed a 7” wired/wireless CarPlay unit that fit nearly perfectly. I wired power, rear camera, and an aux cable that I ran under the center console to the rear aux input. So my unit acts like a receiver and the stock radio is the amplifier with steering wheel volume retained. I can’t change songs with steering wheel but I can use Siri, the phone, or the CarPlay unit. I have a front camera that I haven’t gotten around to install yet. In retrospect, I wish I had installed the rear view camera to an ignition-switched power source instead of the reverse lights. It would be nice when the LR3 is fully loaded to use it instead of the rear view mirror. I may switch it

I believe you can retain the off road display by separating the stock head unit. Most of the unit is taken up by the faceplate and the CD changer. You can separate the guts of it and connect that to retain the 4x4 display information. There is information online of others who have done it. I separated a non working radio and it's not too bad but it was just to see how it went apart and not to install.

Another option is you don't need to spend all the money on the fully kitted out kit with MOST adaptor. If you buy a new head unit with in-built amplifier you can wire direct to the the speaker wires. The MOST adaptor doesnt allow you to use the front- rear fader. So maybe just buy the double DIN fascia adaptor @ 4:55, the ISO power lead adaptor harness for an LR3 / Discovery 3, the steering wheel interface @ 5:47 , the aerial cable adaptor, a MOST bypass loop adaptor, and the double DIN mounting cage @ 5:13 , and wire your speakers direct. After a bit of research, you can get adapters to solve this problem but it's not cheap. If you have the Logic 7 stereo, you need a FK-853-6 fitting kit, Amplifier fitting kit AK-LR-01, NAVAMP interface 10-651 and for reversing camera a Fakra to male DIN 21-123. You then remove the original stereo, take it a part, getting rid of the bulk, then plug in the new cables, hide the remains of the original head unit in the dash and fit your new head unit. That's the short version but it leaves you with working 4x4 screen, navigation, all speakers and steering wheel controls. Hope this helps. We are looking at doing this unless further research finds an easier option.

So with this installation do only the front speakers work (since you're connecting the front RCA outputs to the MOST and stock amp)?

All speakers work including the subwoofer. The amplifier distributes the one L/R signal throughout the speakers. In the “sound” menu of the Alpine deck you can control the balance (left/right) but not the fade (front/back).
