Nice video always different ways people do this trade. I was always taught that anything after the outlet plate is then classed as the appliance and is then under the PAT testing regs. But I do always do an extra check to confirm earth at the appliance no harm in going the extra mile to confirm these things. Good to see an electrician taking pride in their work not many tradesman out there who do nowadays!!! Keep up the good work

Had the label ‘discussion’ when I did my 18th update recently. The BBB clearly states ‘not smaller than those illustrated here’ so the tutor said that’s what we must do. At lunch we photocopied the labels at actual size, gave the tutor the inspection label, the RCD test label, the 2 colour label and the multiple supplies label. Gave the scenario of domestic with solar panels and 10 way CU. Challenged him to fit all the labels on the CU. Guess what he could not do? I think that as long as they are legible then they can probably be smaller. I use my Brother printer and 24mm tape, double height if needed, for all my labels. If needs be I’ll put it as a departure on the cert due to size constraints just to be bloody minded.
@ashmanelectricalservices43185 жыл бұрын
If all the labelling can't fit on the consumer unit, it can be attached close by, on the wall to the side of the consumer unit for example.

@@MyTrustedElectrician Yeah, as I said, do it for your own piece of mind if you like but come 10 years time, I doubt the next guy is gonna test at the appliance and if he's using your cert as a reference, he's gonna be thinking "Why's my reading lower then his???".

32 amp ring shouldn’t be an issue. A ring leg is actually only designed at 20amp
@ashmanelectricalservices43185 жыл бұрын
How do you work that out, the typical current carrying capacity of a 2.5 mm sq copper conductor is about 22 amps, since a ring circuit has 2 feeds, the csa is 5.0 mm sq, that would give you a current carrying capacity of 44 amps.

On the weight of the Oven. Do you check if oven doors can be separated from the body of the oven. I have a large double oven (De Dietrich) and both doors are triple glazed units. Both of the doors can be easily taken off with hinged securing clips on each of the hinges. The two doors make up about half the weight of the complete oven. This feature is prob only on the more up-market makes of oven. Neff/Miele etc. On the matter of CPC testing - My oven has a separate connector block (GB6:SF4506/CK) downstream from the isolater. This is situated behind the oven - so it would be this point that needs to be tested. Always best to test the oven itself as its about the biggest lump of metal in the house that's hard wired to the Electric circuit.

Mmm yes but the problem with ring mains is sometimes people go from the consumer unit round all the sockets to the furthest point. The longest leg is from the furthest socket back to the board and it's pointless. Sensible way to do it would be to stagger them so as to share current more equally but no one does. Do you think it's ok to use a 30 a jb on a 32 a ring main? Thanks again for videos and happy new year.

@@MyTrustedElectrician yeah there is a common misconception that appliance testing is only done on portable appliances, or things with plugs on them. There are many different types of appliance that should be tested, including everything up to fixed equipment. The Zs is up to the accessory and from that point on the Earth bond requirement is 0.1+R Ω for a class 1 appliance, the R being the resistance of the CPC in the supply cable. Nice to have a conversation about it though.

Overload devices should be rated equal or lower than the equipment it protects. Just puts everything right for the next chap who turns up a few years down the line and wants to add a little more load onto the circuit. I nearly had this issue with an induction hob.
