I have used “Stonecoat “ poured epoxy countertops for our boat. 1 year in and they still look great. Stonecoat has numerous videos on how to prepare, pour and decorate the countertops. I used their tiny mica flakes and a squirt of Krylon paint on a jar lid then used a toothpick to create colored veins in the epoxy.

The German chandlery Compass24 makes an own brand clone of these called “Spirit Cooker 3000” for about €300. I believe they are identical except for an issue with the pot holders - don’t know as I don’t have one. Haven’t seen those gimbals before, looks nice. The system has obvious advantages on a small boat..

I have an extra origo 6000 in addition to the one on my westsail 32. They are fantastic, love it!

An excellent modification. I have scored a single burner from EBAY, previously had a Oriego stove with oven. The oven is a bit of a PIA to use, very poor temperature control, but the top burners work brilliantly.

I had the Origo 6000 on my last boat. Other than heating up some nachos...I agree...the oven is pretty much worthless. Cook top burners work well and boil a pot of water surprisingly fast.

The Origo stoves are available under the banner of Dometic, made in NZ, I think theyre a swedish design They also make the oven which is worthwhile, they sell them as a set but I guess if you had a spare burner you could make a gas oven work. If you have a few old mouse pads around you can put them on top of the fuel storage cans and close the lid on them, it saves some evaporation

I’ve used Everclear grain alcohol in my Origo in a pinch. 95% alcohol content!

Please, everyone, also get a fire blanket as part of your fire safety equipment. Check out Expedition Evans’ last video where a friend was seriously burned when using an alcohol stove. Full story on what happened to cause the fire is still to come but this a huge lesson on what can happen in an instant.

@Scot Yount Thanks Scot, I have an alcohol stove on my yacht. And do not want propane. Unfortunately nearly all manufacturers have stopped making marine alcohol stoves. Very frustrating.

I saw that video, but only heard a lot of stories about the drama that unfolded after it happened. No explanation of what caused it. I'm guessing it was something any seasoned sailor would have been careful to avoid. Did he spill a container of alcohol near the lit stove? Was he attempting to refill it while lit or still very hot?

I used contact cement and you can see how it was applied in the same way I added formica to a plywood countertop in my latest video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmTQY2WXpqmarcU

James, Did you make your own veneers?
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 2 жыл бұрын
@@dboboc The veneer used here and on the boat in the video linked below was Paper-backed Mahogany Veneer Flat Cut 20 mil backing, item #pbmahfc48 from veneersupplies.com. I then apply it to whatever plywood I'm using. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6mcdop5fK18ntE

I also have an Origo 3000 alcohol fueled stove and I bought two 5 gallon buckets of 99.9% Isopropynol which leaves considerable soot on my pan, do you know of an additive that can eliminate this sooting? I would have thought the purity of the isopropynol would have prevented this issue 😐
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 2 жыл бұрын
Isopropyl, even 99%, is known as a sooty fuel compared to denatured alcohol. I don't use it and have not heard of anything to add to it to fix that but maybe someone else can comment. You might try mixing it 50/50 with denatured.

Hi -- if buying used, would I need to replace the fuel cannisters? If so, where would I get them. Thank you. Salt Spring Island, Canada
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 2 жыл бұрын
I've never seen the fuel cannisters go bad or be missing from the stoves when you buy them so there should be no need to replace. If something happened to the wick inside the can I guess you could research what the material is and replace it yourself.

Did you use marine plywood for the cabinet?
@atomvoyager
@atomvoyager 2 жыл бұрын
Yes but we sometimes use an exterior grade plywood for these interior cabinets and we always seal or paint all sides and edges of bare wood.
