When I was in elementary school, my school had this computer lab where the computers were all those blueish/greenish iMacs and the educational software they had would crash on occasion, so you'd hear "It's not my fault" coming from some of the computers while you were in there.

Actually, there were several other video cards that were capable of being installed in the G4 cube. You just had to worry about clearance and whether the card fan would fit in the limited space. There were two initial CPU models, 450/500MHz and then had CPU upgrades you could buy that brought it up to 1.8GHz.

The folder layout is saved in the (hidden) .DS_Store file on OSX and then being translated to the, i think it's called, not sure, Desktop file in OS9

A "Type 2" Error means it ran out of RAM. Unreal (and most 3D games) is super memory hungry, give it nearly as much RAM as much as you have; you're not running anything else in the background besides the system anyway.

Idea: I did that with mine, and it wouldn't be a bad idea if he decides to use the SSD for something else. A good SD card is plenty fast enough to saturate the ATA bus. Another idea: GTFO.

Guy Crew I was playing it more for the story so I just used some cheat codes for a lil more HP and 2x damage, and surprisingly never regretted it. Also, you should totally give Earthbound and Mother 3 a try. (Earthbound is basically Mother 2, but they renamed it for the US release.) And if you're looking for a modern-day equivalent of these amazing SNES RPGs, give LISA a try. It's on steam and a truly unforgettable play.

***** Yeah, I've beaten all the Mother games. Earthbound was actually the first RPG I ever played...and I've beaten it about 5 times... Also, I found that even without cheats, Chrono Trigger requires little-to-no grinding. For me anyway. All of them are great games. As for LISA, never heard of it and will look into it. Can I recommend a Radeon 7500 upgrade for that machine if you put OS X on it? MacSales dot com has the actual Apple version of the card for $30. Just swap the mounting bracket and you'll get like twice the GPU performance.

I'm not sure if anyone told you this or not (don't want to read through all the comments, my bad) but the G4 cube came with a separate module you plugged into the usb port that had little round satellite speakers for sound. It didn't have an internal speaker.

But yes, Rage 128 and GeForce 2MX aren't the only GPU choices even for Mac OS 9 use. There's also the ultra-rare GeForce 3. Technically any Mac AGP 2x/4x card would work, but most are too tall to physically fit in the Cube.

You can change the graphics card, I installed a Radeon 7500 in my cube. It takes a little modification of the card's PCI bracket with some metal snips but it works.

When you installed the SDD in your cube you should "Format" the hard drive to the extended version of HD set up. That way you win't get bit errors in the HD
