I am creating VMs in Azure. I configured the DHCP and created the scope, created a ClientVM in the same subnet and virtual network as the DHCP server, but the client is not getting the IP address from the scope I gave. looks like its getting it from Azure default DHCP. How can I fix this? Thank you.

Can I do all those steps but not enable the DHCP? I am adding a 2016Dc to an existing 2008SBS domain. Once everything is said and done I will move the roles to the 2016DC but that might not be fr a couple weeks. I was hoping I could do the DHCP setup, but not have this server do anything until the switch. I heard your initial warning at the beginning of the video but saw you can say "enable" or "disable" scope.

Rich: There is now problem with doing what you are planning. Once you are complete, simply go back in and bring the DHCP server down as it may start up once you configure it. You are them in a great place to bring this server up when you are ready. Also, keep in mind to do some research on DHCP redundancy versus using the 80/20 scope rules... It used to be you could only have one DHCP server giving out a specific range (scope of IP addresses) but now you can create DHCP redundancy that works much better for management. I will try and do a video on this...

Thanks for the response. But I want to keep this server up the whole time since it is about 12 hours away from me :)

If you can remote into it just bring down the DHCP serve service portion of the machine, then remote into it and enable DHCP when you are ready. If you need more information let me know and I will create an personalized video that demonstrates what I am talking about.

Yeah I actually got this going a day or so ago. I followed everything you said but left the old Server DHCP Service Running. Once I was ready i turned the service off for old SBS and turned service on for DC....worked like a champ. Thanks!
