10 years later and this video is still applicable. I am training to serve as by departments technical support person with no background in IT at all. I am very intimidated given how foreign everything is in this field. However, your videos and the clarity that you convey makes digesting this material so SO much more manageable. I was feeling overwhelmed before finding your series and despite it being 10 years old, it still seems 100% relevant to 2023. THANK YOU!

Fantastic explaination. Thank you Eli. I had to note down quite a couple of information I didn't know. And yes, I got the book too. Thanks. For a person below: Syd Bloke, Eli's instruction is not meant for the high end established engineer such as yourself but also for the absolute basic debutant. It's not only for people of the US but from all around the world where their accent varies and understanding is limited. You may take his instruction as dramatizing but tell you the truth, he made it so much more interesting than my Calculus teacher to which we all fell asleep half of the time. Wish you all well.

First, as Pikachu stated below, AD DS Eli is reffering to, when saying Active Directory Directory Services, is abbrevation for Active Directory Domain Services, not Active Directory Directory services - no such thing exists. (Active Directory exists, Directory Services exist, yet there is nothing that could be called Active Directory Directory Services in one phrase.) Second, AD DS (Active Directory Domain services) is not newer version of AD (Active Directory), but it's more like set of instruments used to manage the AD. And by the way, AD DS is among us since Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. Anyway this is very well built and educational video with high potencial of common users understanding the concept of AD = above said means this comment is no hate, just a correction. PS: There IS alternative to AD on Linux/Unix systems... @leecartwright58579 жыл бұрын
No, OUs are not the same as groups; think of an OU as a box that you keep your user / computer in and then groups are like clubs that your user / computer is a member of, your user can be a member of many groups but you can only keep it in one box.

AD DS = Active Directory Domain Services (not Active Directory Directory Services) Right?

V For Pikachu Everything I've found states AD DS = Active Directory Domain Service. Its published that way on Technet and in the Windows server 2012 Unleashed book. This confused me a bit also.
@TheBigAnkle8 жыл бұрын
+V For Pikachu ADS (Active Directory Services) = ADCS (Active Directory Certificate Services) + ADDS (Active Directory Domain Services) + ADFS (Active Directory Federation Services) + ADLDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services) + ADRMS (Active Directory Rights Management Services). There's no such thing as Active Directory Directory Services. Nevertheless, whatever he calls ADS is not going to change how it works. I guess it's just a slip of the tongue that got stuck in his memory. It's funny that he emphasizes the correct use of names though...

Rolando Veliz What's bugging me is that everywhere I look, including Microsoft referenced books and their site, the official name is Active Directory Domain Services, and not Active Directory Directory Services.
