The main thing to understand is that virtually any security system can be defeated given the willpower and the time. So the point of a security system is not necessarily to defeat the criminal it's just to put them off. Yeah, you can get past these bollards but why bother when the house next door is an easier and quicker challenge.

What everyone has failed to realize about this and almost all other non-keyed entry/exit devices is the presence of the ground loop. This loop detects metal. A wire running to the controller is monitored for changes. You can see this loop being installed a few feet inside the driveway. Funny part is the only thing one needs to defeat such an exit loop is a metal no-parking sign, throw it low to slide it across the known loop without setting one foot on the property. Bollard, retract. Same thing works on most non-keyed security gates. If your gate or bollard relies only on the presence of a vehicle to open it... a decent pieces of sheet steel or aluminum will defeat it in 2 seconds. Always add a keypad to exit, AND add the ground loop so that a vehicle must be present with a proper keypad entry to activate the gate or bollard. Now, without knowing the details on this install, it MIGHT be possible to shutdown that loop detection. All that said, it’s a badass bollard install. Please tell me that loop is a proximity safety... but it’s way too far really for that purpose. Potentially a wireless receiver/transmitter... which is essentially taking the place of a keypad.
@TheHoipoloi4 жыл бұрын
The loop is simply to prevent the bollard from raising when a vehicle is over it, nothing to do with granting permission for lowering bollard.
@703simpson4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHoipoloi so this thing is controlled by maybe a remote rf key fob, with a hardwired switch inside the house? I like it. Nice install. In the US, the egress loops are often installed in this fashion. I have seen all flavors, though. Keypad with egress loop, which is problematic for foot traffic with a gate setup. Mainly commercial installs in that scenario. Folks can and do get trapped inside if they do not have a vehicle. Building codes may also require a non-keypad egress loop. They are inherently insecure. I want one of these bollards. :)
@driveguard14 жыл бұрын
Tim, you make some valid points, although in this case, the loop has been installed for safety, ie, to stop the bollard from rising accidentally if someone was to press the remote control by accident when someone is driving in or out of the driveway. It has NOT been installed as a free exit loop which you describe, so no, the bollard will not drop if you place a metal sheet over the loop. There was also no reason to install a keypad because the customer didn't need one or want one, they wanted to just use a simple handheld remote control to bring them up and down when they want. Just thought I would clear this up:)
