Our video demonstrates what's involved during the supply and installation of 2 automatic rising bollards on a private driveway. A single bollard was required at each entrance to protect a large SUV, and we installed a safety induction loop at each entrance to prevent any accidental rising of the bollards. Control of the bollards is managed by using a standard 2-button handheld remote control to both raise and lower the bollards when required.
You can view our full range of automatic rising bollards at securitybollardsdirect.co.uk/...

My mate had these fitted on his drive and some wannabe gangsters tried to steal his car by driving onto his driveway and when they tried to drive away the bollards stopped them. The main thing to understand is that virtually any security system can be defeated given the willpower and the time. So the point of a security system is not necessarily to defeat the criminal it's just to put them off. Yeah, you can get past these bollards but why bother when the house next door is an easier and quicker challenge.

What everyone has failed to realize about this and almost all other non-keyed entry/exit devices is the presence of the ground loop. This loop detects metal. A wire running to the controller is monitored for changes. You can see this loop being installed a few feet inside the driveway. Funny part is the only thing one needs to defeat such an exit loop is a metal no-parking sign, throw it low to slide it across the known loop without setting one foot on the property. Bollard, retract. Same thing works on most non-keyed security gates. If your gate or bollard relies only on the presence of a vehicle to open it... a decent pieces of sheet steel or aluminum will defeat it in 2 seconds. Always add a keypad to exit, AND add the ground loop so that a vehicle must be present with a proper keypad entry to activate the gate or bollard. Now, without knowing the details on this install, it MIGHT be possible to shutdown that loop detection. All that said, it’s a badass bollard install. Please tell me that loop is a proximity safety... but it’s way too far really for that purpose. Potentially a wireless receiver/transmitter... which is essentially taking the place of a keypad.
@TheHoipoloi
@TheHoipoloi 3 жыл бұрын
The loop is simply to prevent the bollard from raising when a vehicle is over it, nothing to do with granting permission for lowering bollard.
@703simpson
@703simpson 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheHoipoloi so this thing is controlled by maybe a remote rf key fob, with a hardwired switch inside the house? I like it. Nice install. In the US, the egress loops are often installed in this fashion. I have seen all flavors, though. Keypad with egress loop, which is problematic for foot traffic with a gate setup. Mainly commercial installs in that scenario. Folks can and do get trapped inside if they do not have a vehicle. Building codes may also require a non-keypad egress loop. They are inherently insecure. I want one of these bollards. :)
@driveguard1
@driveguard1 3 жыл бұрын
Tim, you make some valid points, although in this case, the loop has been installed for safety, ie, to stop the bollard from rising accidentally if someone was to press the remote control by accident when someone is driving in or out of the driveway. It has NOT been installed as a free exit loop which you describe, so no, the bollard will not drop if you place a metal sheet over the loop. There was also no reason to install a keypad because the customer didn't need one or want one, they wanted to just use a simple handheld remote control to bring them up and down when they want. Just thought I would clear this up:)

As a first generation Canadian of English parents I've never understood the U.K. fascination with front garden fences and driveway gates. These bollards of course eliminate the need for 2 gates. Picture this...you arrive home from work, park on the street get out and open the gate. Get back in car and park in driveway. Get out and close gate. Do the same in reverse order to go to work in the morning. Madness I tell you.

Gene, they are used for preventing the theft of vehicles or to stop other cars from using your driveway as a turning circle, they offer protection from both scenarios. Here in the UK, it is a massive problem. Some people like the manul lift telescopic type which you will see in car dealerships, and some people want the more convenient remote control type, so they go for the automatic bollards.
